Soooo… apparently I’m coming out of “retirement.” 🎳😂

For those who don’t know, I used to be pretty big into bowling. About two years ago, for several reasons, I decided to step away.

Every once in a while, I help my buddy Dennis with his monthly Senior Tournament here at the beach — and yes, “Senior” means 50 and over. 😳 They usually draw around 80–90 bowlers.

Leading up to my 50th birthday on August 1st, I kept joking with Dennis that once I was officially old enough to bowl in his tournament, maybe I’d come out of retirement and give it another shot.

Well… I probably should’ve kept my mouth shut. 😂

Next Sunday’s tournament has almost 120 bowlers registered, and apparently I’m actually going to DO THIS.

So today, I LITERALLY blew the dust off my bowling stuff and met Dennis at Myrtle Beach Bowl just to find out if I could physically do it anymore.

That’s a legitimate question. I have Grade 4 arthritis in my right knee — which, of course, happens to be my sliding knee and takes a beating when I bowl — and I’m eventually looking at a knee replacement.

But today… I made it through THREE games. 🎳

Next Sunday, I’ll need to bowl five.

Was it great today? Nope. 😂
Was it terrible? Not really.

Actually, I did more good things than I expected after being away for two years, so I’m going to give it a shot next weekend.

And I’m going into it with ZERO expectations.

Maybe that’s exactly what I need.

I want to see if I can get back to simply having FUN bowling again. Somewhere along the way, it stopped being fun — and that was one of the biggest reasons I walked away in the first place.

So next Sunday, there will be no expectations, no pressure and no idea what the hell is going to happen.

Just roll the ball and see where it takes me. 🎳😂

And Dennis — thank you, brother. Seriously.

Thanks for being a great friend and for getting me back out there, even if it’s just to TRY doing something I’ve loved for a huge part of my life.

Apparently the old guy still has a few games left in him. 👴🎳

**Retirement status: temporarily suspended.** 😂

Oh, and I had my Peaky Hat - The Bobby along for the ride.
