Russian Chicken & Mushroom Julienne 🇷🇺🍄
The name “julienne” comes from French, but in Russia, жульен is a completely different thing — a creamy, cheesy mushroom dish that’s been a classic for generations. And today I’m making mine with chicken, all in ONE skillet! 🤤
Ingredients:
• 2.3 lbs chicken breast, cut into bite-size pieces
• 24 oz mushrooms, sliced
• 1 large onion, diced
• 3–4 garlic cloves, minced
• 3 tbsp butter
• 1 tbsp oil
• 3 tbsp flour
• 1 cup heavy cream
• ½ cup milk
• ½ cup sour cream
• 1½–2 cups shredded mozzarella & Parmesan
• Salt & black pepper
• Pinch of nutmeg
• Fresh dill or parsley
How to make it:
Brown the chicken in a hot skillet, then remove it. Cook the mushrooms until they release their liquid and start to brown. Add the onion and cook until soft. Add butter and flour and cook for about 1 minute.
Slowly stir in the heavy cream and milk. Once the sauce thickens, add the sour cream, garlic, salt, pepper and a tiny pinch of nutmeg.
Add the chicken back in, mix in some of the cheese, then cover the top with the rest. Cover and cook on low for 3–5 minutes, until the cheese is completely melted. 🤤
Serve it hot with fresh or toasted bread!
