Happy Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary! Today is the 26th anniversary of the gift that began the process of building the Our Lady of the Assumption Chapel. The Chapel was built with a major gift from Marjorie and Gerard Morrissey, in honor of their daughter Liza, who passed away as a young child.

On August 15th, 2001, on the Feast of the Assumption, Enders Island broke ground on the Chapel.

The following year, the Chapel was consecrated on December 8th and currently serves as the heart of the Island Community’s life of prayer and liturgical celebrations.

St. Edmund's Retreat on Enders Island welcomed the priests of the Diocese of Norwich, and Bishop Richard F. Reidy on August 4th the Feast of St John Vianney, for an afternoon of prayer and priestly fraternity. During his visit to Enders Bishop Reidy blessed our new 15 foot granite Celtic Cross, located at the tip of Enders Island.

This beautiful Cross is visible both from the land and the sea. It will serve as a navigational guide - not only for mariners traversing the waters of Fishers Island sound it will also help those seeking a deeper meaning in their lives and renewed relationship with Jesus Christ and the Victory of His Cross.

This cross was designed and crafted at Rock of Ages in Barre, Vermont and is part of the nearly completed 850 foot Seawall and adjoining the E. William & France Kenyon Rosary Walk, the Michael & Carol Toner Esplanade and the Way of the Cross.

The generous support of many have made this renewal on the Island of Hope-- Enders Island, possible, and is a testament to the shared commitment to preserve, protect, and fortify Enders Island, a sanctuary of hope and healing, for generations to come.

The dedication of the Seawall is on August 22nd, the Feast of the Queenship of Mary, at 6 pm. Please go to enders.is/seawallrsvp to RSVP by August 18, if you would like to attend this special dedication.
