Jockey's Ridge State Park in Nags Head has a new, 1,600-foot boardwalk that extends nearly to the Mountains-to-Sea Trail marker. This replaces the park's former 360-foot boardwalk.

A boardwalk ribbon-cutting event celebrating the increased accessibility of the park took place the morning of Wednesday, May 27.

The Benjie Porecki Trio is back for a second consecutive year, giving a live jazz performance that is free for the public to attend on Friday, May 29, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Ocean View Room at Jennette's Pier in Nags Head.

The trio headlines the evening of music and poetry that the nonprofit Secotan Alliance organized as part of its third annual event series, "In the Spirit of Wingina 3: Seeds of Wisdom and Sustenance."

The two-day event begins Friday, May 29, at 9 a.m. at the Virginia S. Tillett Center in Manteo with a speaker series, moves to the pier for the evening entertainment and continues at the Tillett Center on Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

"In the Spirit of Wingina 3: Seeds of Wisdom and Sustenance" features "academic lectures from esteemed scholars;" panel discussions; and oral tradition from local and regional Indigenous people, according to the event press release.
