Just in case this comment got lost in the post about Billy's return the day after he was tragically shot in the leg, one of his relatives had this to say:

Trish:
Please keep the shooting victim Billy in your prayers. His parents took him to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. His leg was pretty swollen last night and he was upset because of the pain so she wants to see if the bullet can be taken out. Plus yesterday on the way home he broke down and I think it just all hit him the magnitude of everything that just happened to him. He's a strong boy and a very happy camper, but this is really getting to him now. His mother is worried about the hospital bills because she heard that her insurance might not be covered at Norfolk, but I told her I said just wait and call the insurance company when you get a minute to breathe. But anyway, please keep Billie in your prayers now and forever, and hopefully Children's Hospital will be able to get that bullet out.
______________

Perhaps some words of encouragement and support he can read whenever he is feeling down. We had the pleasure to spend time with the family before and after the incident, so reading Trish's post is breaking our hearts. I guess we shouldn't be too surprised, but still...

Billy, we cannot wait for your return to the pier and we will be there for you every step of the way on your road to recovery. Besides, your little brother Mason has a slight edge on you in the "catching fish" category so get better and even things up! We love you, buddy!

After celebrating moms in May and dads in June, July is all about bringing the whole parenting crew together for one big, heartwarming celebration! Parents are the superheroes of our lives — guiding us, teaching us, wiping away tears, cheering our wins, and sometimes just holding us close when the world feels big and confusing.
From those first steps to life’s biggest milestones, parents light the way with love, patience, and endless support. Sure, parenting isn’t always easy — there are sleepless nights, worries that never quit, and the constant hustle of keeping everything running. But today, we press pause to honor their hard work, sacrifices, and the unique magic they bring to family life.

NATIONAL KOREAN WAR VETERANS ARMISTICE DAY — July 27
On this solemn day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who served in the Korean War — a conflict often called the “Forgotten War,” but never forgotten by those who lived it or the families who carry its legacy.
________________________________________

The Korean War began on June 25, 1950, when North Korean forces crossed the 38th parallel into South Korea, igniting a fierce battle that would last three brutal years. This war drew soldiers from more than 40 nations, uniting a global front in a Cold War struggle that cost millions of lives — military and civilian alike.
Unlike the world wars that came before it or the conflicts that followed, the Korean War unfolded quietly, without the thunderous mobilization that captured public attention elsewhere. It was fought in harsh, unforgiving terrain and bitter weather, with soldiers facing not just an enemy, but freezing cold and rugged mountains. President Truman never declared it a war — it was a “police action,” leaving many veterans to return home to silence, their sacrifices unseen by the broader world.

The Forgotten Yet Unforgotten
Long before the war, Korea’s history was shaped by imperial struggles between neighboring powers. Following World War II, the Korean Peninsula was divided along the 38th parallel, split between a communist North and a democratic South — a fragile line that would ignite one of the deadliest conflicts of the Cold War era.
Over 33,000 American lives were lost in Korea. Millions of others around the world suffered unimaginable hardship. And yet, those who served—many of whom were veterans of World War II or would later fight in Vietnam—stood strong against the tide of communism, embodying courage, endurance, and resilience.
Though the war ended in stalemate rather than victory, its legacy is etched deeply into the history of freedom and sacrifice. National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day ensures that these heroes, their valor, and their stories are never forgotten.

💖🎉 NATIONAL AUNT AND UNCLE’S DAY — July 26 🎉💖
Here’s to the cool cats in the family — the aunts and uncles who sprinkle our lives with extra fun, love, and laughter! National Aunt and Uncle’s Day is all about celebrating those awesome relatives who are like bonus parents, best friends, and memory-makers rolled into one.

Whether it’s holiday hugs, spontaneous sleepovers, or those hilarious stories that have you laughing ‘til you cry, aunts and uncles hold a very special place in our hearts. They’re the ones who share family secrets, keep traditions alive, and bring a whole lot of joy to the family table.
Today’s the perfect excuse to dust off those old photo albums, share the stories behind those snapshots, and soak up the memories that connect generations. Every laugh, every lesson, every goofy moment they’ve gifted us is pure family magic — and it’s worth celebrating!
