On this Halloween 🎃 we remember “The Witch of Nags Head Woods”

"The Witch of Nags Head Woods"

In the early 1900s, there once was a witch who lived in Nags Head. For a coin she would children their fortune, and her predictions would come to pass. The fishermen who lived on Roanoke Sound knew this to be true, and would give her an offering of fish from their catch of the day. In return, she offered her thanks and a blessing to the man and his boat. If the fishermen neglected to give her the offering, her retribution would come by changing the direction of the wind so they could not get outside to fish in the ocean. She did her ritual and chanted her spell, and within the next 12 hours, the wind changed. Eventually, the fishermen would appeal to her to remedy the wind, and promise to never forget to give her her fish. Most times, when the fishermen were able to go back out, the fishing was better than it was before.
