“With his band the Broomdusters, which rivaled Muddy Waters’s best groups, James recorded a string of blues numbers he either wrote or reworked—“It Hurts Me Too,” “The Sky Is Crying,” “Done Somebody Wrong,” ”Shake Your Moneymaker” and “One Way Out,” among them—that would become showpieces for blues and rock musicians like Luther Allison, the Allman Brothers Band, Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Junior Wells, Johnny Winter, ZZ Top and James’s onetime employer Sonny Boy Williamson.
