📰 TNP finds a new stage at Dreamland ⬇️

The Nantucket Project and Nantucket Dreamland have announced a new partnership that will make the Dreamland the official island home of TNP going forward. As part of the collaboration, the two organizations plan to co-host a series of public conversations — around eight per year — at the downtown theater, with additional events potentially taking place elsewhere on the island and beyond.

According to a statement, the partnership aims to "create year-round programming that inspires curiosity, connection, and meaningful conversation." The move follows a shift in direction for The Nantucket Project, which paused its traditional four-day fall gathering on Nantucket this year — an event that in past years featured speakers like Michelle Obama, Jennifer Lawrence, and George W. Bush. In explaining the change, TNP co-founder Tom Scott told supporters the "goal is to more boldly bring our work, work that many of you play a critical role in, to more people and more places throughout the country."

📰 $375K boost for year-round housing 🏠⬇️

Housing Nantucket has received $375,000 in state tax credits through the Massachusetts Community Investment Tax Credit (CITC) program, one of just four organizations on Cape Cod and the Islands to be awarded such an amount. The CITC program, part of a $13.2 million statewide initiative, offers a 50% state tax credit to donors, helping nonprofits raise private funds for affordable housing and community development projects.

In total, 54 organizations statewide received funding of various amounts. Anne Kuszpa, executive director of Housing Nantucket, told the Cape Cod Times the funds will be used to “directly support the creation and preservation of year-round housing” on Nantucket. The goal is to raise $750,000 through the CITC program this year, she said.

Last year, CITC funding helped the nonprofit complete 23 new workforce rental homes, including the 22-unit Wiggles Way development and a single-family home through its House Recycling Program.

📰 Flowers meet fine art! 💐⬇️

The annual Art With Blooms event, organized by the Nantucket Garden Club, returns to the island this weekend, inviting islanders and visitors to take part in a two-day gallery walk blending fine art and fresh flowers. On Friday, July 11 from noon – 6 pm and Saturday, July 12 from 10 am – 5 pm, thirteen galleries across downtown Nantucket will showcase creative floral arrangements designed by garden club members to complement the artwork hanging on their walls. The club urges participants to look for green-and-white signs at downtown art galleries indicating their participation in the gallery walk.

Looking ahead to next month, the Nantucket Garden Club is preparing for its 69th annual House and Garden Tour, scheduled for Wednesday, August 6 from 11 am – 4 pm. This year's event, titled "A Scenic Sconset Tour," will showcase a series of homes and gardens in and around 'Sconset, giving viewers a unique opportunity to explore the quaint village on the eastern end of the island. Tickets for the usually sold-out event are $90, available online. Bus service to 'Sconset will start at 10:30 am, departing town from 12 Federal Street.

📰 Drought Dries Up 4th of July Tradition 🇺🇸⬇️

Nantucket's annual Fourth of July water fight on Main Street has been canceled due to ongoing drought conditions. "This decision, made out of an abundance of caution, prioritizes the health and well-being of all island residents and visitors, and reflects our shared responsibility to conserve water during drought conditions," the town said in a Facebook announcement.

Nantucket has been under mandatory water-use restrictions since last month, after the state declared a "Level 1 - Mild Drought" for the island. As a result, automatic lawn irrigation is limited to two days per week between 5 pm and 9 am, with odd-numbered addresses allowed to water on Mondays and Wednesdays, and even-numbered addresses on Tuesdays and Thursdays, according to the town. While the water fight has been put on hold this year, the town is still planning a full day of festivities across Main Street, Children's Beach, and Jetties Beach.
