The Whalers’ Div. 4 state tournament run came to an end in the final four Wednesday with an 11-2 loss to top-seed Cohasset.

Jake Johnson and Arann Hanlon scored the goals for Nantucket, who will finish the season with a record of 15-6 after coming up one game short of advancing to the state championship again.

The Whalers are heading back to the Div. 4 state tournament final four again following their 8-5 win over Ipswich at home Sunday.

Nantucket will now face top-seed Cohasset at a neutral site with a spot in the state championship game on the line. Date, time and location of the semifinal match-up are all TBD.

Off-island, the girls tennis season came to an end with a 5-0 loss to top-seed Lynnfield in the quarterfinals.

The Whalers are heading back to the Div. 4 state tournament quarterfinals following an 11-7 win over Sandwich in Thursday’s rematch of last year’s state championship game.

Nantucket will play one more game on-island against Ipswich, date and time TBD.

What a day for the Whalers!

The girls lacrosse and girls tennis teams are both moving on to the Div. 4 state tournament quarterfinals following a pair of exciting wins at home Wednesday.

The girls lacrosse team came away with a thrilling 7-6 overtime victory against Manchester Essex, with Dylan Damian scoring the winning goal following a game-saving stop in net by Ella Douglas early in the overtime period.

Over on the tennis courts, the Whalers swept the Advanced Math & Science Academy 5-0 to book their ticket to the quarterfinals for the first time in program history.

The Whalers opened their Div. 4 state tournament run with a 15-4 victory over 25-seed Wahconah Regional in Monday’s round-one match-up.

Eight-seed Nantucket will now host nine-seed Manchester Essex later this week in the sweet 16.

The Whalers opened their Div. 4 state title defense with a 14-2 win over 29-seed Lenox Memorial in Monday’s first-round match-up.

Four-seed Nantucket will now host 13-seed Sandwich later this week in a rematch of last year’s state championship game. Date and time of the sweet 16 match-up is TBD.

The annual Nantucket Special Olympics was held Friday morning at Vito Capizzo Stadium, with about 50 students from grades K through 12 participating.

The event was put on by about 20 Nantucket High School student volunteers, along with members of the Nantucket Police and Fire Departments.

The 18-seed Whalers are moving on to the second round of the Div. 4 state tournament following Wednesday’s 4-1 win over 15-seed Rockland.

First singles Nik Krastev, second singles Boyan Kalpazanov, third singles Knox Keating and the first doubles team of Forbes Keating and Thomas Schroeder all won their matches for Nantucket.

The Whalers will now go back on the road to face two-seed Lynnfield, date and time TBD.

The Whalers sailing team hosted 10 other area schools Tuesday morning for the annual Cape & Islands League Girls Championship.

Represented by Sadie Paterson, Clem Kelly, Cecilia Wendelken and Emy Browers, Nantucket finished the regatta in fifth place.
