Hello, I am Marilyn Dale! 👋Thank you for taking a moment to get to know me. Somewhere along the line I read, “whatever you loved to do in kindergarten is what yo

u’ll love to do all your life.” For me, it’s true, and I am both so lucky and blessed. I loved drawing and coloring. My favorite toys were my crayons.Today, as a fine artist, I am an award winning artist, a colorist, accomplished in oil, watercolor and pastel. I am inspired by landscapes and people, creating everything from traditional portraiture through abstractions. I’ve earned a Certificate in Painting from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and taken additional coursework there for more than twenty years. A working artist, graphic designer and art instructor, I’ve taught art to adults in the continuing education department of a small college and my local art league. I enjoy painting in oil, watercolor and pastel, from traditional portraiture through abstraction. In addition to artwork to hang in your home or office, I have designed large-scale liturgical fabric and stained glass works and had several works published. I enjoy working on commissions, where the pieces have personal significance to the owner. As the chair of the Art and Environment Ministry for my church for many years, I've designed large-scale liturgical fabric and stained glass works. Several of my pieces have been featured in publications by the North American Conference of Separated and Divorced Catholics, the Lutheran Church, University Hill Congregation and frequently by the Ministry and Liturgy Magazine. I am also the author of Energize Your Art Ministry.

This time of year, I always find myself wanting to refresh my space — not just by cleaning, but by adding little touches that make it feel elevated and more comfortable for the Winter ahead.

Artwork, like “Crucible of Faith,” has a way of transforming a room into somewhere a little more elevated because it's produced by a working artist.

One of my favorite design tips is the 70/30 rule: let 70% of your space lean into one dominant color or style, and use the remaining 30% for bold accents, textures, or patterns.

It’s such a simple way to make a room feel balanced and intentional.

Do you prefer more neutral bases with pops of color, or the other way around? This can be helpful for holiday decorating, too.

When the weather turns colder, I find myself drawn to simple comforts — warm drinks, soft blankets, and little details that make a room feel inviting.

Artwork is one of those details that transforms a space into something more personal. What’s your favorite winter comfort?

"Victory Girl - Lorraine": https://www.marilyndale.com/ww2pr/art_print_products/victory-girl-lorraine

"Lorraine probably won't know me when I get back."

Victory Girl, Lorraine, was one of three pinup girls Chester said were all he needed. It depicts his young niece beaming with pride, holding a cloth soldier doll in one hand and her own strength in the other. Against a bold Army star, she stands as a symbol of hope and innocent resolve. She didn’t wear a uniform, but she marched with him in his heart every step of the way.

The oldest of my cousins, Lorraine was the first of the next generation. He’d lived upstairs from her since she was born to his sister and missed her dearly during the war. Lorraine was just four years old when he left. With a smile full of spirit, she embodied the reason he fought. In wartime, even a child could serve as a beacon.

No matter what your feed looks like today (loud, quiet, joyful, complicated) I just want to say thank you.

Thank you for following my artwork, supporting creativity, and making space in your scroll for something personal and handmade.

Gratitude looks different for everyone, but I’m always thankful for the people who believe in independent art.

“I wear my rosary around my neck and pray it every night.”

In the Pacific, survival meant more than weapons or rations—it meant holding tightly on to faith. This painting recalls men gathered in prayer on Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines, surrounded by a landscape stripped bare by bombs and grenades. In the absence of certainty, faith was the tether to life itself. It was the quiet force that bound men together, carried them forward, and gave them the strength to endure.

Where fire-bombed trees marked the devastation of war, Chester and his squad bowed their heads. Strength was fleeting, rations thin, and the future uncertain. What endured was faith—shared, unspoken, and unbreakable. In those moments, faith alone held them together as everything else was falling apart.

What’s the most underrated decor trend you can think of?

I’ll go first: art with a story.

Whether it’s something you thrifted, found on a trip, or discovered through a connection with an independent artist—it adds depth and meaning to your space.

What would you add to the list?

You're viewing, “We're Gonna Make It Right”.

Have you heard of the "romanticizing your life" trend?

What’s been the softest, most peaceful part of your day lately?

A walk? A certain cup of tea? A song on repeat?

How about looking at art like, “The End of the Beginning”?
