Hello, I am Marilyn Dale! 👋Thank you for taking a moment to get to know me. Somewhere along the line I read, “whatever you loved to do in kindergarten is what yo

u’ll love to do all your life.” For me, it’s true, and I am both so lucky and blessed. I loved drawing and coloring. My favorite toys were my crayons.Today, as a fine artist, I am an award winning artist, a colorist, accomplished in oil, watercolor and pastel. I am inspired by landscapes and people, creating everything from traditional portraiture through abstractions. I’ve earned a Certificate in Painting from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and taken additional coursework there for more than twenty years. A working artist, graphic designer and art instructor, I’ve taught art to adults in the continuing education department of a small college and my local art league. I enjoy painting in oil, watercolor and pastel, from traditional portraiture through abstraction. In addition to artwork to hang in your home or office, I have designed large-scale liturgical fabric and stained glass works and had several works published. I enjoy working on commissions, where the pieces have personal significance to the owner. As the chair of the Art and Environment Ministry for my church for many years, I've designed large-scale liturgical fabric and stained glass works. Several of my pieces have been featured in publications by the North American Conference of Separated and Divorced Catholics, the Lutheran Church, University Hill Congregation and frequently by the Ministry and Liturgy Magazine. I am also the author of Energize Your Art Ministry.

My dad emerges from jungle warfare or patrol. In the middle of WWII, he carried more than gear. "I Keep You With Me" is layered with the weight of jungle warfare—and images of the woman he loves. She was never far. She was his reason to stand tall.

I love this abstract. It captured the Pacific jungle perfectly for me, inspired by William Manchester in his book "Goodbye, Darkness: A Memoir of the Pacific War. See if you agree, he says:

"Bataan’s almost unbelievable jungle, cliffs are unscalable, rivers are treacherous. Behind huge narra and mahogany trees, eucalyptus trees ... and tortured banyans, almost impenetrable screens are formed by tropical vines, creepers, and bamboo.

Beneath these lay sharp coral outcroppings, fibrous undergrowth, and alang-alang grass [razor-sharp, capable of cutting skin and sapping strength with every step] inhabited by pythons. Rain poured down almost steadily.”

See it at North Central College's Schoenherr Gallery Oct 21 to Dec. 5. Open Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sat.
