MEET THE PRESS
Our employee spotlight this week is Heidi Saxton: Senior Acquisitions Editor
• Favorite Hobby Outside of Work: My husband and I love to travel — we spend half each year in the woods of northern Michigan, winters near West Palm Beach. This August we are heading west to explore some of the National Parks in our RV.
• Favorite Book: Since this year is dedicated to the Sacred Heart, I’d recommend Emily Jaminet’s books — she has a children’s book with Sophia called “Saints of the Sacred Heart,” but you can find her other books at the Sacred Heart Enthronement Network (welcomehisheart.com).
• Coolest place she’s traveled: Last summer Craig and I spent three weeks in Germany, where he fulfilled his dream of attending “Oktoberfest” in Munich, and I got to attend the Frankfurt Book Fair! The highlight for both of us was visiting the Monastery of St. Hildegard of Bingen. Rüdesheim am Rhein, in Eibingen
• Go-to beverage at the desk: I have a weakness for iced chai lattes with vanilla foam and nutmeg.
• Home State: That’s complicated, because I’ve moved a lot. But I met my husband and adopted our children in Michigan — we now live in northern Michigan at a place called Charlevoix. I grew up in New Jersey, and have lived in Minneapolis, California, Florida, and Senegal (West Africa).
As Senior Acquisitions Editor, she works with our authors to help bring their books to life. With almost 30 years of experience in editorial, she is a vital member of our team.
Heidi’s day-to-day looks like…
• Talking with authors whose books are in development
• Reviewing proposals that come into our main inbox or through author connections
• Discussing proposed manuscripts with other staff to determine what goes under contract
• Moving manuscripts through the developmental editing process
Heidi says that she loves working for Sophia Institute because “they take their faith very seriously, but they do it in a way that attracts other people to the faith.”
Thank you Heidi for all your hard work and dedication!
