I think motherhood changed the way I look at money.
Because there was a time when I thought the goal was to make as much as possible.
More hours.
More income.
More opportunities.
And then I had kids.
Now I find myself asking a completely different question:
What is my time worth?
Because my kids aren’t going to remember what my paycheck said.
They’re going to remember who was there.
Who made breakfast on a random Tuesday morning.
Who heard the ridiculous story they absolutely needed to tell me.
Who was sitting on the couch when they came home.
Who watched the little things they did that nobody else would think twice about.
And those moments are happening right now.
Not someday.
Right now.
The truth is, there are seasons where working outside the home is necessary. There are families who need two incomes. There are moms who genuinely love their careers. There are a million different circumstances, and I would never pretend there is one right way to raise a family.
But for me, personally, I have had to realize that I don't just want to make a living.
I want to be present for the life I'm working so hard to build.
Because a job can replace an employee.
A company can fill a position.
A paycheck comes and goes.
But my kids get one childhood.
And I get one chance to be their mom while they're little.
One day these mornings will be gone. The sticky hands will be bigger. The little voices will sound different. The bedtime stories won't be needed anymore.
And honestly?
I'd rather have a little less money and a whole lot more of them.
Because when I look back on this season of my life, I don't think I'm going to wish I answered more emails.
I'm going to wish I soaked up the moments I thought I had more time for.
