YOU KNOW I LOST A FRIEND THIS WEEK WHO I NEVER MET … face to face.
This is Joe Hudgins.
A wonderful guy.
You know in the TV news biz you are around long enough and you make relationships.
Not news sources, but friends.
Joe was one of those.
I’ve talked about how I consider my Facebook followers friends.
The same goes for those who follow me on the news.
Or, viewers of my show each day — MorningLine on Newschannel5 Plus.
Joe was a regular caller over the years.
We never met, but I sure got to know him.
He’d call in to comment about whatever we were talking about … and his comments were good.
I took him on-air almost always first.
A very decent man who became a big part of the show.
I did not know it, but he was in hospice … though he kept calling.
Well, his daughter emailed me this morning with news that her father had passed.
This is what she sent me:
——
My name is Tammy Farley and Joe is my father.
He passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon at home with me and my mother at his side.
He was on hospice care for about a week so he didn’t suffer.
Wanted to let you know; he thought the world of you and really enjoyed your show!
——
This brought a tear to my eye.
I thought the world of Joe.
May he rest in peace.

Some faithful NC5+ viewers may remember her from her daily calls to MorningLine in the early days. She was a dear friend to us and we remember her fondly.

SAD TO REPORT — the passing of a good friend and a wonderful caring member of the Nashville community.
Wynona Lurie has passed away.
As her obituary states:
She was no ordinary woman.
Anyone who knew her knows that she was a force to be reckoned with.
When she put her mind to something, it was as good as accomplished.
This list for her goes on and on — She served as a Metro beautification commissioner … She was actively involved in many community organizations: the Battlemont Neighborhood Association, Sunny-side, The Future of Nashville Neighborhoods, Neighborhood Alliance for United Neighborhood Health Services, Nashville's Night out Against Crime, Keep America Beautiful, and The Annual Great American Clean-up.
Above all else I came to know her as a person who simply cared about people … always with a kind word and a smile on her face.
She was a frequent caller to MorningLine … and even once sent me one of her famous chocolate sauerkraut cakes.
Her recipe made The Farmer’s Almanac … and yes … it was great.
You don’t taste the sauerkraut, but it makes the cake super moist.
And, I think of Wynona whenever I step off my front porch.
There grows a beautiful heirloom rose bush — she gave clipping a me years ago.
She was a fantastic gardener.
Wynona Lurie was 91.
SHE WILL BE MISSED.

In case you missed last night's Southern Woods and Waters

09/03/2021

It’s been a tough week at NC5. We lost a great engineer last weekend. Sending prayers and hugs to the family of David Birdsong. When viewers think of a certain station, they often think of the anchors and reporters on that station. I often tell groups for every one person you see on the air at a station, there are several behind the scenes helping make it all come together. The engineers are the ones who help get equipment ready to use and who we turn to when it needs repair. They are the reason we could work from home in the pandemic.
David was part of a great department at our station, and he will be sorely missed. He had become a point person for the weather department in the last few years, helping us launch a new project on NC5 Plus just a few weeks ago.
After Chef’s Market would appear on Talk of the Town, I always made a point to let him know their fruit tea was in the fridge afterwards since we knew how much he liked it. I’ll miss just seeing him in the hallway or break room. To David’s family, especially his sons, we are so sorry for your loss and will continue to keep you in our prayers. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

An opinion on your report concerning cheer teams: All indoor sports are too risky. Allowing non custodian grandparents inside make it even worse. Teachers are essential. Sports are not! Teachers and their families are sick and dying because people "want it all". This is a pandemic. Selfish behaviors are why it's still a pandemic. If you want your child educated in school, stop the risky behavior. Ask a doctor and thank a nurse. They're dying, too.
Adrian Hollerman is with Squeak Gee and 63 others . June 10, 2020 · This is the situation im going thru right now. I'm currently at South Central Prison. I was supposed to be home may 17th. The police came thru and did a shake down. They found contraband next door. But wrote my room up. Had a D borad hearing found me guilty. Now I'm waiting on a recission hearing after CO Beckem already told them it was a mistake. Supposed to be at the end of the year. But a white man just went thru the same thing. Had his hearing a week later. And I'm still here. We locked in a cell all day with no air or running water. No water to drink. Can't shower or even flush the toilet. We sweating and dehydrated. This ain't right. Please yall share this. News channel 5 (615.244.5000) #blacklivesmatter #prisonlivesmatter
Please please put Heather and Henry on the weather!!!
Please Share🙏 Hello Biden, I would appreciate it if stimulus checks could have been provided for adults who had aged out of foster care this that had recently aged out of foster care and who is having a hard time having to try to find a job when moving on with life and not being able to have enough support. I will appreciate if you could send my words to help not only me but other future aged out foster care system that are greatly kind of in need.
Why is Bree Smith still working at home her weather forecast is not as good as bern in the station, she is the only one, and it is a very bad job. She she does not want to be a weather forecaster then she need to let some one that does, she is also off more than she works
Why is nothing airing on 5plus??
When will you replay Nashville Nutcracker?? We have tried to watch twice now and nothing is streaming.
Seriously? You preempted Face The Nation during the interview with the Mayor, for this?
While the impact of the bombing downtown is terrible and I don’t mean to draw away from that. The impact is far reaching for those of us in the suburbs that depend on AT&T for internet and TV. Come Monday AM our ability to work remotely will come to an end. And those of us that for many reasons have chosen to work from home will be pushed back into the office. Some have just been lucky their jobs permitted it, others that have medical conditions may require them to avoid exposure. Nevertheless we will be forced to return to work because of lack of internet coverage!
Please tell me you will air all the Days of our Lives episodes we have missed since 12/2 and the new Law and Order shows. Please! Not everyone has internet good enough to stream.
My daughter was unable to watch The Nutcracker Live on Friday. Will there be an Encore showing?
