A PERSONAL NOTE:
I write this with a heavy heart and through tears … but I am also comforted knowing she is in a better place.
My beloved mother — Silvi Samaras Beres — passed away overnight — this after a brief illness.
She was 85.
I will sooooo miss her.
Losing your mother is losing the one person you know who truly loves you unconditionally.
I share this not for pity or sympathy.
I share this because so many of you are my friends and I want you to know my mother.
Writing this and sharing it is cathartic.
My mother was one of a kind.
An artist and musician who taught me the value of creativity — and individuality.
She is the reason I love tie dye.
She’s also the one who always pushed me to test myself and strive to succeed.
She fostered self-confidence I didn’t know I had.
She always preached for me to be my own best friend.
And she taught me empathy … to care for others and whatever hardships they may face.
My sweet mother lived most of her life battling mental illness — bi-polar and manic depression.
It was hard, but she received treatment and lived life to the fullest.
I have such admiration for her strength.
Much of that was drawn from the support of my father who is 90 and will dearly miss his wife of more than sixty years.
I am headed to Boise, Idaho now to be with him and my brother.
Again, please don’t pity me.
I will celebrate my mother’s life.
Her passing is very sad, but not tragic.
I will always remember my colorful mother with a warm smile.
I LOVE YOU MOM … REST IN PEACE.
