Under all the math and engineering, I found an inconvenient truth: Not much is being recycled at all, nor is pyrolysis capable of curbing the plastic crisis.

Not now. Maybe not ever."

The plastics industry has heralded a type of chemical recycling it claims could replace new shopping bags and candy wrappers with old ones — but not much is being recycled at all, and this method won’t curb the crisis.

MRF=Materials Recovery Facility

Function: An MRF receives and sorts a stream of mixed recyclables.

Landfill: a place to dispose of waste material by burying it and covering it over with soil, usually engineered to protect the environment but not guaranteed or a long term solution.

FACT: we are throwing away valuable resources and materials that could be used and recycled.

FACT: we need investments for more MRFs not Landfills

Tennessee is trying to pass legislation that would provide this funding from the producers themselves: 👀

Session is coming, and we need to tell our representatives this message:

WE WANT MRFS NOT LANDFILLS 😎 and EPR can pay for this investment!!!!

What we know…

We need $$$ for recycling infrastructure.

Brands and companies creating packaging waste can do whatever they want with no accountability.

Consumers feel helpless because we have no control over the packaging on products being sold.

EPR generates that $$$ and incentivizes brands to make more sustainable design.

Win-win?!! 💯

One of the most fascinating podcasts I've watched. Eric Weinstein knows so much I could barely keep up. Steven Barlett was super patient and kind. There were moments of confusion and even shock, beauty, things I related to on such a deep level and moments where I had no idea wtf was going on. Still. I am going to look into all the things that Eric suggested at 2 hours and 23 minutes. wow. just wow. Now is not what we think it is
