One of my favorite things about working with small businesses is the intention that goes into every project.

When we first talked about OAK's new Homestead candle line last fall, I knew when we got to spring I had to make the dusters seeded so that customers could take full advantage of upcycling these beautiful jars, and just to make the candles feel like spring in every way.

I burned through mine in record time, just to start growing my wildflowers. 🌼

Oh how I love being a woman.

I remember when Kylie sent me these after a shoot we did for my business, and thinking about how much I loved them & how powerful they made me feel, but how I couldn’t use them because they weren’t “professional” enough.

But then I started thinking about why I thought that, and why I would let somebody else’s standards shrink who I am.

When I think of the women who have made the greatest impact on my life, I think of the women who paved their own path, who had the courage to chase their daydreams, who had the heart to serve others with joy even on their worst days, who didn’t let anybody else’s opinions stop them from living their life on their terms.

We were born to nurture and to love, but also be bold, creative, hell-raising, and full of spirit.

Only you can define you, and as someone who fought it for a long time, let me tell you what a gift it is to let yourself lean into who you are.

I’m grateful today & all days to be surrounded by women who inspire, celebrate, and champion one another. Happy , ladies. 💪🏼🤍

Happy Women's History Month!

In case you didn't know, every year the National Women's History Alliance designates a theme for the month, and this year's theme is "Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories", which "will encourage the recognition of women, past and present, who have been active in all forms of media and storytelling including print, radio, TV, stage, screen, blogs, podcasts, news, and social media."

As a woman who's spent my career telling stories for businesses and brands in just about every medium, I think this is such a powerful reminder of the importance of telling our stories. Our experiences as women, business owners, mothers, friends, and human beings, are our greatest tools for connecting with others, inspiring others, and learning and growing as individuals.

It's an honor and privilege of mine to get to help so many women share their stories, and this month this space will be dedicated to sharing the stories of some of my clients, as well as some of my own stories (because I sure have been slacking on telling my own lately 🤣).

I hope you too take advantage of this month for telling your story, and listening to others.

Ah, the joys of the ever-changing Instagram algorithm!🙃

The love hate relationship with Instagram and their constant changes runs deep for most people, but at the end of the day, their goal is and always has been to keep people on the app for as long as possible. While it’s no secret that short-term video is the cool new thing, Instagram users were very vocal about the fact that they still wanted to see photos.

So at the end of last month, head of Instagram Adam Mosseri posted a story where he stated that:

“I think we were over-focused on video in 2022 and pushed ranking too far, and basically showed too many videos and not enough photos. We’ve since balanced, so things like how often someone likes photos versus videos, and how often someone comments on photos versus videos, are roughly equal, which is a good sign that things are balanced.”

With this "balancing" initiative, we now have more options for sharing unique content that is true to our brand. If you love video, share videos. If you love writing and/or photos, share carousels.

I saw this tweet the other day that made me laugh (swipe to see), but also reminded me that we weren't created to just stare at our screens until we die 🤣

So, I put together a list of a few things I've been doing to create more peace in my days, that have ultimately helped me show up better for the stare at my screen hours, and everything else.

If you woke up today to hundreds less followers OR a suspended account - you’re not alone!

Instagram is dealing with a massive glitch that has thousands of accounts suspended and banned.

If you’ve been banned, the best thing you can do at this point is file a complaint by clicking the “disagree with decision” button at the bottom of the email you received.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - with social media platforms, there are countless factors we can’t control, which is why it’s so important to host your content somewhere you can control, like your website!

One of my favorite things about working with small businesses are the communities that build around them - the communities that build them.

I started working with OAK when I started my business three years ago, and through a pandemic, major business shifts, and just a whole lot of life - we've been through a lot together.

Last weekend they had their very first event, and it was the sweetest reminder of why small businesses do what we do.

The little girl who has spent her allowance buying brass animals at OAK for years who got to "work" with the "big girls".

The fellow small business owners who showed up with last minute touches, or self-care kits for after.

The friends who show up early to iron your shirt and talk you out of your head.

The same customers who are always first in line to every event.

The coworkers who feel like family.

The magic of all the plans in your head finally coming together, and the excitement of other people getting to enjoy it with you.

Running a small business isn't always pretty, or easy, but it's the people you get to connect with, and the people you get to serve, that make it all more than worth it. 🤍

Three years ago I couldn't find a job that felt like the perfect fit, so I made one. 💃🏻

All I've ever wanted to do is help people, and make pretty things, and three years later, I'm helping women grow their businesses all over the world.

Telling people you're starting a business at 23 with no idea what you're doing is scary, but for me personally, it's much scarier thinking about sitting in a corporate cubicle somewhere. 🤣

If I've learned anything in my 26 years, it's that life's too short to settle, to do what's expected of you instead of what fulfills you.

To my clients & friends, thank you for supporting me on this journey. I'm eternally grateful for you 🤍
