i know i say this a lot, but life is so very full of detours!

and tbh the best thing you can do, if you can manage, is to follow them. it took me a few *years* to stop fighting the wave instead of riding it, but the peace and sense of relief and simplicity and easiness i felt once i did, was life changing.

anyway, all of those detours have led us here, so happy one year of this giant storage unit of a dog house / private off leash dog park. it already feels like home, but may this be the year during which we finally act like it is 😅

thank you for the overtime on helping me find the right spot and especially for resending this one when i’d overlooked it and for making magic happen when no one else could. we are so grateful to you both.

alright folks, here’s part 3! we actually got really lucky— i’d only signed up for two runs on Saturday because a) we had no experience at this level yet so i didn’t want to “waste” money, and b) i figured we would run fastcat early in the morning and then start driving home because we had an 8-9 hr drive ahead of us. but by the end of the day Saturday, not only was i having FOMO about Sunday, but we weren’t even showing up on the results sheet because we’d only signed up for two runs instead of four like everyone else- as in, every single other dog

needless to say, i asked if they had space for us to be added in, and the answer was an emphatic YES! (phewf!)

so here’s our first run from Sunday... it was so much fun and so very stressful, but more fun than stressful because remember, we’d only ever practiced or trialed in the master level the day before, so my goals were about communication and letting patchy have fun playing his favorite sport.

ngl both of us got to the first climb and thought “are you fkn serious?!” 😆 i know i’m still sore, and at that point, i realized he was too. but we pushed forward.

patch seemed to want to skip, i kid you not, EVERY obstacle except maybe 2 of them so that was probably the actual biggest challenge - fighting a 50 lb tank when everything is slippery and muddy AND you’re swimming or on a teeter totter requires core strength, back strength, arm strength, and mental strength, and i’m fresh outta ALL of that! 😄

i did a horrible job capturing videos and lost my phone again for a hot sec (oops), but once these photos come in, we have LOTS more stories to tell!

5 years ago today and just shy of a month being home. he was still limited to the driveway because we lived in a condo with no yard and a million street cats that multiplied (or attempted to) every night. people left 💩 on the sidewalks or the occasional bagged p**p left for…someone else to pick up? idek.

but we had fun, and as much as i wish we’d done socialization a littttttle differently, we more than made up for lost time exploring. patchy’s always come everywhere with me, and that’s just how i always want it to be 🥰

another in the books! 🙌🏽

we missed this version of the race last May so we didn’t really know what we were in for. sort of… but we did the race in reverse in October so the point of exhaustion hit a weeeee bit differently— obstacles vs. a vertical hike— choose your poison! 🤣

there were injuries before the race, unintentional lack of preparation, major lack of sleep (again, unintentional 🥲), running gear malfunctions, and injuries during the race but i would still call this quite the success! we showed up, and we finished! and with a time right around where i was expecting.

i think the actual biggest success might’ve been me accepting that i didn’t have to run at the same pace as October (or faster). if you know me, you know i love a good challenge 😁😇

anyway, details later. for now, let’s hope we’re back in running shape by next weekend!

excited to be crossing state lines yet again with this one. he doesn’t quite know where we’re headed, but he’s gonna kick into overdrive when we get there. tomorrow, because every day, every game, every race is, as our friend Monica said “for the Olympic gold,” but today, because he gets to see the greatest love of his life 🤭

can’t wait! (jk i can bc it’s… a lot. i am still excited though, lol)
