George Strait was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1975, and he spent the final two years in Hawaii. While there he played country music with an Army-sponsored band called Rambling Country, and also with an off-base group called Santee.
Come join us at Keeping It Country Live & Sons of AMVETS Veterans Tribute on November 4th featuring The Bellamy Brothers, Ronnie McDowell and many other special guests … never know who will show up … maybe we can even get George Strait as a headliner on a future veterans tribute concert if we make sure this years event is a standing room only salute.

Facebook is suddenly REJECTING our PAID ad that we’ve been running for our Veterans Tribute Concert. We’ve requested a review and still waiting to hear back. They have also been throttling our non-paid reach the last few days as well so it’s critical that everyone to Keeping It Country Live and view and share all the recent posts to overcome it. This seems to be a pattern with anything related to veterans or unity of our country and patriotism. Hopefully they will fix this soon. In Memory of Ron Gaddis, listen to our archive interview with Ron from December 2017 on Keeping It Country with Don Caldwell.
For those who don't know ... Ron Gaddis was a musician in George Jones‘ road band, where he reportedly served for close to two decades. He was Jones’ frontman, playing bass, and leading the Jones Boys through their opening sets.
Ron also served as the Jones Boys’ bandleader, he sang harmony with George in concert in the 1980s and 1990s and provided harmony and duet vocals for his famous boss.
Ron Gaddis sang the Merle Haggard part on countless versions of “No Show Jones”, according to sources. He had duets with guest vocalists Porter Wagoner, Texas Pl***oy Leon Rausch, Lorrie Morgan, and on an all-too-prescient barnburner titled “I Fell Off The Wagon”, George Jones.
Lorrie Morgan, who Ron Gaddis married also toured as a backup singer for George Jones in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Thank you to everyone who sent a message over the last couple days volunteering to buy a ticket or two to send a veteran to Keeping It Country Live & Sons of AMVETS Veterans Tribute. It truly means more than you to us and we know it will mean even more to a veteran you have blessed with a ticket to this very special tribute. It's way more than selling tickets, and even it it was just one person who came and enjoyed what we do, we would still offer that one person the same quality concert as if we have a sellout crowd of thousands. It's about touching each and every life out there and leaving a legacy. There's really no better feeling than to be able to give back to someone and to make lasting friendships. Giving back doesn't always require money either, yes we have challenged all to give at least a ticket if you can but the greater challenge is to make a difference wherever you go, even when nobody is watching, YOU can make a difference in someone's life even if it's simply just giving them a positive word or a smile.

Great post about Hank Williams, we are planning a special tribute to Hank’s 100th on Keeping It Country Live & Sons of AMVETS Veterans Tribute at the historic Shreveport Municipal Auditorium. Shreveport has so much music history !
Hey Shreveport-Bossier! I wanted to take a moment to raise awareness of a very special upcoming date -- September 17, 2023, will be Hank Williams 100th birthday!
As most of you know, Hank Williams' story is inextricably and forever linked with Shreveport-Bossier. Hank joined the Louisiana Hayride radio program in 1948 and shortly thereafter skyrocketed to fame. Hank lived here, had a child here, and was proud to briefly call Shreveport-Bossier home. At the Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery, Alabama, the cities of Shreveport or Bossier are mentioned THIRTY-NINE times.
Predictably, we as a city haven't properly honored Hank's memory. To my knowledge, there are no murals of him, no statues, and of course no museum. Anyone passing through our city would have no idea that Hank spent any time here at all. My goal is to change that.
As September 17th approaches, I'm calling on everyone in Shreveport-Bossier to help bring awareness to Hank's legacy in the SBC by posting on social media, hosting events, and elevating Hank's memory in the consciousness of our community and the world.
Donna Chance Hall and I are planning some fun things on our own but we sincerely hope others can join us. As a city and a community, it's the least we can do. Shreveport-Bossier played a pivotal role in the development of one of the most influential singers and entertainers in American history and it's time for us to honor him properly. Please share and help spread the word. Thank you!
