"The pride of Monkey’s Eyebrow, Kentucky, and a certified Kentucky Colonel, you don’t get much more Kentucky or much more country than Kelsey Waldon, down to the Bill Monroe tilt of her hat. Uncompromising as she is genuine, Waldon has always leaned into her Kentucky roots, and made music her way. But it’s never been more her way than on her new album Every Ghost that she produced herself.

Kelsey Waldon has also never been more Outlaw in tone and texture. From grooving in half time, to the pounding bass drum and 2-tone bass guitar lines, this album puts you right back in the bell bottom ’70s in the best of ways. Instead of recording with studio musicians, she chose to go with her own touring backing band, The Muleskinners. That road-tested, groove-worn sound comes through in the results, leaving you wanting much more after the ninth track.

There might be ample daylight between the popularity of Waldon and her fellow Kentucky contemporaries such as Sturgill, Tyler, and Stapleton. But she’s the one that’s kept it the most country as she continues to work to refine herself and her music in pursuit of the more perfect country song"

The point of this exercise is not to devolve music into a competition. It is to stimulate a lively conversation about what we all believe is the best album, using our differing perspectives to inform each other.

It’s hard to accept that Todd Snider ( ) is gone. It’s shocking, heartbreaking and feels so unfair. Todd meant so much to us here at Oh Boy on many different levels, it’s been a struggle for us to find the right words. So we will spend some time sharing memories, stories, pictures, and of course songs over the coming days.

One thing that we’ve never really properly acknowledged is that working with Todd allowed us to become a “real” record label - not just a vehicle for releasing John Prine music. He laid the foundation for much of what we do now in supporting the next generation of performing songwriters.

On a personal level, he was so kind and generous with everyone here (and with all the Prine family), especially after John passed.

We already miss that smile so much.

Rest in peace Todd.

Oh Boy Records is proud to announce the third album from Emily Scott Robinson, 'Appalachia' releasing Jan. 30, 2026. The 10-song collection, produced by Josh Kaufman (Grateful Dead, Anais Mitchell, Bonny Light Horseman) at Dreamland Recording Studios in upstate New York, finds Robinson at her most fearless and tender, singing about love and loss, grief and hope, and the power of community in the face of devastation. The album’s title track, “Appalachia,” is released today (October 15) alongside a new music video.

Inspired by the stories of resilience following Hurricane Helene, which ravaged Western North Carolina in September 2024, the song centers on a mother determined to endure. “The song is less about what we can control and more about how we can care for one another,” Robinson says. “We’re so much stronger when we have a community. Then we have hope.”

Appalachia marks Robinson’s third release on Oh Boy Records and her fifth album overall. Over five days in the spring of 2025, she and Kaufman transformed Dreamland, a century-old church sanctuary tucked away near the Hudson River, into an ethereal recording space. The sanctuary’s creaking floors, cobwebbed windows, and natural reverb gave life to Robinson’s most expansive work to date. Robinson’s roots run deep in North Carolina, where she first discovered her love for songwriting as a teenager. Since releasing her debut Magnolia Queen in 2016, she has become one of Americana’s most distinctive voices. Her records Traveling Mercies (2019) and American Siren(2021) landed on Rolling Stone’s “Best Country and Americana Albums” lists and earned praise from NPR, The Washington Post, Billboard, American Songwriter, and more. With Appalachia, Robinson continues a career defined by songs that move people to tears and, more importantly, to hope. “There’s this thing I do with every record I make,” she says. “I knit a prayer into it and ask for the songs to find their way to everyone who needs them. If my music can be of service in that way, then I’ve done my work.”
