Maria Venus Raj will always be remembered as the beauty queen who broke the decade-long drought that plagued the Philippines in Miss Universe.

From 2000 till 2009, no Philippine bet made it to the semi-finals. And then came Venus who put the Philippines back on the pageantry map.

Since her fourth runner-up finish in 2010, the country has consistently made it as a semifinalist, at the very least, highlighted by the title wins of Pia Wurtzbach (2015) and Catriona Gray (2018).
