This acquisition could be a promising transition for the Harry Fox Agency. Regarding SESAC’s plan to implement micro-licensing on social video networks, this could be big news for publishers. Rather than just allowing publishers to claim YouTube URL’s to link videos to represented songs for ad revenue, this would create a viable system where content creators can actually obtain & pay for proper synch licenses for using songs in their videos – creating an additional revenue stream for publishers that we have not had the ability to implement before. Many user generated videos never get enough views to generate substantial ad revenue for publishers, but an upfront licensing model could substantially change publishers’ earning potential on YouTube & other video networks. Videos that would normally generate $0 in ad revenue for publishers would now have the ability to earn additional synch licensing fees.
