Can you disciple someone without them realizing you’re discipling them?

For Dave Buehring, when someone doesn’t yet know Jesus, discipleship can start through influence.

It’s not initially about quoting Scripture or pointing out how successful you are. It starts with something much simpler:
How do you treat them? And how do they see you treating others?

Long before people hear what you believe, they experience how you live.

Before your next big business decision, consider having a different kind of meeting.

A business meeting with God.

In our conversation with Shae Bynes, she shared three questions she uses to seek God’s heart, strategy, and wisdom:

Father, what is on Your heart concerning this?
Jesus, what is Your strategy concerning this?
Holy Spirit, what wisdom do You want me to know?

Shae reminds us that the answer might come through Scripture, a clear thought, or even a conversation with someone the next day. The invitation is to seek God.

“If heaven has blueprints, let’s seek heaven.”

“I need to know how to do this with God.”

A CEO came to Shae Bynes after her business grew rapidly. She was exhausted and unsure how to keep going.

And she told Shae something significant:
“You are the first person I’m coming to and hiring, not because I’m trying to make more money.”

She wanted to learn how to walk out her business with God.

As she began putting that into practice—even learning the idea of having a “business meeting with God”—Shae watched her confidence grow, and change begin to happen.

Almost a year later, Shae describes the testimony simply:
“She’s growing, and the business is growing.”

What does it actually look like to work in grace?

For Shae Bynes, that question became a 14-year journey.

After encountering Jesus’ invitation to “learn the unforced rhythms of grace,” she began asking:
“Jesus, show me what that is. What does that even look like to work in grace?”

That exploration moved from her personal experience to mentoring others and, eventually, advising business owners on what it looks like to work and lead from grace.

As Shae describes it, it’s been a journey “from one level to the next.”
