Nashville Writers Meetup Group

Nashville Writers Meetup Group The Nashville Writers Meetup is a group of dedicated people who want to improve their writing and wish to master the craft of writing. Keep it professional.

This is the page for our 1000-member, real-world writing group in Nashville, TN. We meet for in-person critique and encouragement both as a general writer's group and under several subheadings with specific focuses on novel-length fiction, non-fiction, poetry, sci-fi, suspense/mystery, memoirs, children's writing, and more. We also occasionally feature established authors, editors, market

ers, and other publishing professionals as guest speakers. This group is open to any Facebook members who are interested, whether from Nashville or other reaches. Please be advised that any work you post here is available to be viewed by the public, and may therefore be harder to sell because it's then considered "previously published." We have created a private forum at the Meetup site for exactly this reason, but you have to sign up there to be able to use it. All of the rules posted within the Meetup forum will apply here, as well, with Administrators reserving the right to issue final judgment on anything that may arise regarding appropriateness or advertising. Using coarse language in your piece is fine, so long as the piece carries a warning visible at the headline level. CALLING someone else in the group obscene names, however, is not. Please, no spam, or we'll have to shoot you.

Last year, I posted a snippet of a work in progress...

"Fluffybottom's people don't use Holo-Covers. How is it no one is raising a stink to the cops about a six-foot-tall anthropomorphic cat driving around central Florida with four lumberjacks?" I asked.
"It's Tuesday," Co-Tay replied.

About THE CHAPERONE

Like every young woman in New America, Stella knows the rules:
Deflect attention.
Abstain from sin.
Navigate the world with care.
Give obedience.
Embrace purity.
Respect your chaperone.

Girls in New America must have a chaperone with them at all times. Because of this, Stella is never alone. She can’t go out by herself or learn about the world. She can’t even spend time with boys except at formal Visitations.

Still, Stella feels lucky that her chaperone, Sister Helen, is like a friend to her.

And then the unthinkable happens. Sister Helen dies suddenly, and Stella feels lost. Especially when she’s assigned a new chaperone just days later.

Sister Laura is...different. She has radical ideas about what Stella should be doing. She leaves Stella alone in public and even knows how to get into the “Hush Hush” parties where all kinds of forbidden things happen.
As Stella spends more time with Sister Laura, she begins to question everything she’s been taught. What if the Constables’ rules don’t actually protect girls? What if they were never meant to keep them safe?

Once Stella glimpses both real freedom and the dark truths behind New America, she has no choice but to fight back against the world she knows, risking everything to set out on a dangerous journey across what used to be the United States.
