The Pope spoke of Pier Giorgio’s life as a "beacon for lay spirituality” pointing to his political commitment and service to the poor. Of Acutis, “he grew up naturally integrating prayer, sport, study and charity into his days as a child and young man.”

I don’t know why I was so surprised. Over the last week, he was clearly trying to squeeze every last ounce out of his life as Shepherd. Randomly showing up at his favorite altars and churches. Coming out to see everyone. He didn’t want to die in the hospital. He wanted to die in the field with his sheep.
