1. You need a ton of Facebook fans to be successful. Truth: What you need are true fans who seriously want to follow your career and love your music.

2. You have to be a phenomenal talent to be successful. Truth: You need to have a marketable talent, a professional demeanor, a business mindset and the ability to attract a great team.

3. You are too old, too young, not pretty/handsome enough etc. to be taken seriously. Truth: There is a market for everyone with a decent level of talent. The trick is to find the audience who doesn't care about those things, and loves you for other reasons.

4. All you have to do is show up and you will be discovered. Truth: No matter where you go, you have to create a buzz and build relationships. That takes time, energy, effort and an investment in yourself.

5. You have to have money to make money. Truth: Yes, you have to invest in yourself, and that can cost money. However, there are ways to use other people's money to build your career. There is not enough room to go into it here. But in essence, you have to be able to attract money to make money.
