On the Bench: Tapco 4400A four rack space spring reverb unit. This one is a work in progress, but I wanted to highlight one of the cool things I did in the process of restoring it to its former glory. Anyone who has experience with these knows that the stock slide potentiometers are horrible. They are made entirely of plastic and even if you can get the dust removed and it sounding clean, the pots stick along their travel and are a pain to use. No modern replacements with the same pin out are available and new-old-stock parts are eventually going to develop the same issues.
My solution was to source high quality Bourns 60mm slide pots and then custom machine an adapter circuit board and 3d print a spacer so the new pots sit at the correct height relative to the front panel. Works perfectly!
I’ll be listing a full replacement drop-in kit on my Reverb shop. Link in bio. Until that goes live, DM for purchasing info.
