On the passing of Buzz Cason of the infamous Creative Workshop Recording
From Producer Brent Maher:
When I received the news about Buzz’s passing it did not come as a shock because I had spent time with him a week earlier and could tell his time was drawing near. Still, when you lose someone who has meant so much to you it breaks your heart. Buzz was my friend, my mentor, and I loved every moment I worked sitting beside him as his engineer making music.
Years ago as a young, hopeful assistant recording engineer at “Foster’s Recording” I opened the studio scheduling book to see who was booked to come in to record. I saw Buzz Cason had booked a master session and had requested me to be the engineer. I thought it was a mistake because I’d never recorded a master session before. I’d done some demos, some with Buzz and Bobby Russell and others but no masters. That session with Buzz and Mac Gayden was the game changer for me. That night put my career on a path that I can never thank Buzz enough for having faith in me as his engineer. That night we recorded the Pop/ R&B Standard “ Everlasting Love.”
Over the years Buzz and I spent hundreds of hours working together at his studio, Creative Workshop. Buzz the producer, me his engineer. One song comes to mind that has always been one of my favorites. The song is by Mac Gayden entitled “ Morning Glory.” Buzz’s producing is perfect, Mac’s slide guitar playing is inspirational as is his voice.
I hope you enjoy the video of that recording. https://youtu.be/KakNupzs79o?si=TDylkHNgVl_cU3ol
God Bless Buzz, his family and all his friends who will miss him dearly..
