🚨Important Update🚨
As of today, I am no longer employed with Berrien County Animal Control. This decision was made by the county commissioners, and it was not my choice to leave.
This job was never just a job to me—it was a passion. I poured my own blood, sweat, tears, and personal funds into trying to help the people of this community, the animals in my care, and those who love them. I had truly hoped to turn this shelter into something better—a place where dogs didn’t just come to die, but where they had a real chance at finding safety, care, and a home.
Unfortunately, the elected officials in this county do not prioritize low-cost spay/neuter clinics, animal welfare, or finding homes for shelter animals. They would have preferred that I euthanize every dog upon intake—but I refused. In the last month alone, out of 32 dogs, every single one made it out alive. When they forced me to close the shelter and wanted me to euthanize the 17 dogs that remained, the community stepped up. Because of fosters, adopters, rescue partners, and other shelters, every one of those dogs was saved. No animal had to die simply because they wanted them to.
Until further notice, the Community Cat Program is paused for county residents. If you’ve recently adopted a dog from me, I will still be monitoring this page and will continue to help as much as possible.
To the amazing rescue groups, fosters, and individuals who supported me—thank you. I couldn’t have done this without you. I wish you all the best, and I hope the fight for these animals doesn’t stop here.
