Researchers are once again studying the strange yellow-green material known as Libyan Desert Glass—the same material used in a scarab buried with Pharaoh Tutankhamun. New analysis of microscopic zircon crystals trapped within the glass suggests it was formed under incredibly extreme conditions involving intense heat and rapid cooling, renewing the debate about its cosmic origins. Scientists continue to explore whether the glass was created by a meteor impact, an airburst explosion, or some other extraordinary event, but the mystery remains unsolved.
For me, stories like this are a reminder that some of history's greatest mysteries don't involve aliens, lost civilizations, or secret conspiracies. Sometimes the mystery is real, measurable, and sitting right in front of us.
