Parenting and sleepless nights seem to go hand in hand. Whether you've got a newborn, a pr***en, or something in between, sleep can sometimes be hard to come by.

In her June article "Surviving Sleepless Nights," Tammy Darling gives 12 tips to help. Consider this one:

Say a prayer! As you crawl into bed, declare Psalm 4:8 aloud: "I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, LORD, make me live in safety." Release the day and any family or outside problems to the Lord. Put your children in God's hands. God is fully capable of seeing you and your family through the night. God doesn't sleep; therefore, you can ... even if a little one does wake you up from time to time.

Flashlights, finger flashlights, all kinds of lights! Give your preschooler a flashlight to bring light to dark places. Suggest under a bed, inside cabinets, or in a dark room. Ask your preschooler why he likes light rather than dark. As you turn on a night-light for sleeping, repeat the Bible truth that God brings light to all situations and will show us the way to go.

For more age-appropriate ways to teach your kids how to be the light, check out our Growth Spurts article on page 36 of our May issue!

Every mother wants to be the best she can be for her family, but sometimes the expectations pile up like laundry and the load gets too heavy to carry. In her May article "Supermom Syndrome," Rhonda C. Hensley reckons with the Proverbs 31 woman, who intimidates so many moms. But this woman was not a superhero. She was just an ordinary woman allowing God to do extraordinary feats through her. What made this woman so praiseworthy that her attributes are an example to emulate?

Parenting’s a bit like riding a roller coaster — ups and downs, twists and turns, horrifying, scream-worthy moments and moments of pure ecstasy. And that’s where the parenting AND comes into play. There’s power in a parenting AND. We can focus on the negative alone, or we can realize there’s more to the story and take our parenting to the next level. Though there are many, writer Tammy Darling takes a look at six parenting ANDs in her May article.

It's Teacher Appreciation Week! Have you planned a way to show your children's teachers that you care?

Rather than add to a teacher’s life, think of ways you can take something off her hands by making life just a little easier for her. Teachers are always giving their time and energy to our children; think of gifts which allow them to finally get something for themselves. For some ideas, check out our May article "5 Simple Teacher Gifts" by Lorie Keene.

In our Growth Spurt article called "Prayer Practices" this month, we cover different aspects of prayer based on different ages and stages. We explore prayer as praise, conversation, appreciation, intercession, as well as corporate prayer.

Check out these helpful tips for 6- to 8-year-olds on corporate prayer!

Prayer is most often between individuals and God. But sometimes prayer is together with other people. Practice corporate prayer at bedtime, letting your young school-age child voice appreciation, conversation, and requests for God’s advice. Give everyone a turn, including babies and toddlers. This teaches two key prayer skills:
1. I can lead a group prayer.
2. I can join the group when others pray.

Planning a move? In our April article "Tips for Moving: Part 2", Adelle Gabrielson offers some strategies (from her own personal experience) that will help you connect in your new community! Like the following tip ...

Trips to local parks and the beach saved us the summer we moved. Kids don’t need introductions to make friends. My boys usually found other kids to play with wherever we went, while I found time to relax and be still. Even if they didn’t make friends on a particular day, they seemed to get along better when we were out enjoying God’s beautiful creation.

Another strategy ... if you're planning a move during the summer, look ahead to see what area churches are hosting a VBS.

While many of us recognize the value of conversations around identity, we often wait to approach these issues with our kids until the seasons of elementary school, middle school, or even high school. Yet, it is never too early to start talking to our kids about the importance of identity.

The more we can impart the simple and memorable truths of biblical identity in the hearts of our little ones, the more equipped they are to recognize false messages and combat them with truth.

To learn more about the power of biblical identity truths in the lives of preschoolers, don't miss Kayla Stevens's April article "Who Are You?"
