Iโ€™d say it was quite an enchanting night. ๐Ÿ˜

The weather was cool, the fire was roaring, and amazing performances from the next generation of songwriters.

This was our first backyard show, so of course there were some hiccups. But I think โ€œUnder the String Lightsโ€ could grow into something special.

And thanks to all who came out and spent their Saturday night with us. It means a lot.

The Upstate Sound proudly launches its new Latin Entertainment division, based in Miami and led by Karla Castaรฑeda, with the debut release of โ€œYo Sabรญaโ€ by Cuban-born, Miami-based singer, songwriter, and producer Louis Mikรกn. I wrote this codex after reading โ€œYour Next Five Movesโ€ by

In one of the chapters, he emphasized the importance of actually WRITING DOWN the values and principles you want your company to uphold. A guide to keep ourselves accountable for our actions.
Even the Captain.

The spirit of these principles are a blend of what my Mother and Father taught me and my siblings growing up.
As well as lessons Iโ€™ve learned along my journey.
From joy, from pain. All prerequisites in becoming the man it takes to achieve an impossible dream.

My hope for this Codex is to not only act as a compass for The Upstate Soundโ€™s crew, but to inspire and guide other artists and labels. Even people and companies outside of our industry.

And while more laws may be added to the Codex as The Upstate Sound moves forward, these 14 shall be considered our founding principles.
Our declaration to the world as we move towards our mission, our purpose.

If youโ€™re only collecting one, youโ€™re leaving money on the table.

Every song has two sides:
๐ŸŽผ The composition (lyrics, melody)
๐ŸŽง The recording (what fans hear)

Each pays differently.
Each has different systems.
And most artists only ever see half the check.

โœ… PROs pay performance royalties
โœ… Distributors pay master royalties
โœ… Publishing admins collect the rest (mechanicals, sync, etc.)

If youโ€™re uploading songs but not registering them โ€” youโ€™re working for free.
