Welcome to 1979
Welcome to 1979 is a Recording Studio Like No Other!
Our goal is to be a contradiction in terms: Irreverent yet highly respectful, playful but very focused, comfortable and relaxed while being professional and hard working. We are steeped in heritage yet are cutting edge, stand alone in our ethos but also collaborative in our community, leaders and educators yet willing to learn and are constantly improving. All of these traits allow us to foster a warm, inviting and affordable recording environment for independent and label artists alike. We are fueled by dedicated owners and staff whose purpose in life is to provide a positive experience for the good people of the world by helping fan the flames of creativity and exceeding even the highest expectations.

🚨 BIG ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨
Our long anticipated, full length album “Nightzilla” will be released on all streaming platforms on 12/21/22!!!
This album represents so much of what we stand for.
In the the last 12+ years as a band, ESB has seen it all. Life, death, wins, losses, good times, and bad times. Good people, and bad people. This album really brings it all together. We haven’t released a whole lot of material over our time and that is about to change!
Recorded on analog tape. Tracked in 3 days at WELCOME TO 1979 studios in Nashville TN. IT IS COMING 12/21/22!
We will post more memories, photos, and thank you’s from this adventure as the days go on. ⚡️ ⚡️ ⚡️
We had the most magical weekend down at WELCOME TO 1979 in Nashville, getting a good start on our debut album. There’s still a lot of work to do, but we can’t wait to share this labor of love with y’all! We’re coming in with a bang, for sure!
In the meantime, enjoy this stripped down version of our original song, Habit.
We had a blast hanging and meeting some fine audio folks at the WELCOME TO 1979 recording summit!
Friday night, analog man Ryan Scott laid down some choice cuts from his awesome record A Freak Grows In Brooklyn live to vinyl with Jeremy Bernstein and Chris Mara at the console.
Audio master, Ray Kennedy, did live 10 minute mixes of Lucinda Williams' “Can’t Let Go” and “Car Wheels On The Gravel” road that were on par or better than the final album versions and shared some demos demonstrating Lucinda’s songwriting process!
CAKE’s Fashion Nugget was one of my first CD’s so listening to it in it’s entirety and then hearing engineer Kirt Shearer talk about how it all went down was like coming full circle. I even got to share photo’s of my CAKE cake that I baked to pregame their 2011 show at the Ryman!
Only in Nashville!
It’s a wrap Nashville! One month of sound Women's Audio Mission Audio Engineering Society WELCOME TO 1979 I’ve been enjoying the new wave of women & non binary folx creating spaces & sound while sending support back to little ole me who started in 1997. While it’s not my story to tell right now so many women have been confiding in me the stories of hazing & harassment while they were considered the lucky ones who could put up with it but it’s obvious we all are gonna need a long retreat at some point in this life to gather, support & heal from the things we’ve seen. I plan to keep offering spaces, events & ideas for those to feel safe, uplifted & nurtured in this world so let’s stick together. It’s been so nice to meet everyone, even for a quick hello along the way so I can keep track of your journey so we can continue to support each other.
“11.12.21 Live-In-Studio Nashville” was recorded one year ago today! At just about this hour (1PM Nashville time), Greyson Nekrutman, Jeffrey Blount, and I were setting up our gear at WELCOME TO 1979 studios for the live session that night in front of a small invited audience. The entire thing was a performance, not only from the musicians but also the engineers. Everything was done live on the fly, including the mixing and the lacquer cutting for the vinyl LP, which occurred simultaneously as we were playing. The whole thing was done in 45 minutes. What you hear on the record is exactly what went down. My everlasting gratitude and respect to the engineers, Chris Mara and Jeremy Bernstein, and our lacquer cutter, Maggie Luthar. What an amazing job they did under enormous pressure. My love forever to Greyson and Jeff, who absolutely killed on this thing. And my heartfelt thanks to everyone who’s purchased, downloaded, or streamed the record in all formats since its release on June 10 of this year. The limited edition signed and numbered (all-analog) vinyl LPs and autographed CDs are moving fast. Some vinyl color variants are now sold out. Go to

Congratulations, again, to our 2022 Gold Rackord winner, Daniel Leathersich, with his song, "Whiskey Over!" We had a great show at Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar with all the contestants. Daniel won a cash prize, studio time at WELCOME TO 1979 and more. It was a great night for sure! Take a listen to the winning song at

I’ll be on a Saturday panel at the welcome to WELCOME TO 1979 Summit. Come hang with us!
I have been to vinyl on off performances over at WELCOME TO 1979, and you have to have a special kind of bawls to do this. Our featured artist, Guy Snowdon and the Citizens is doing just this. If i knew where it was, i would probably stop to hang out. i'd probably bring a 12 pack, too..
New art, new photos, new liner notes, full color gatefold, remixed and remastered for vinyl at WELCOME TO 1979… four specially selected tunes.
We expect to have LIMITED COPIES available in January.
Stand by for pre-sale opportunities!
We slowed down and stripped down I’m Free" live at the legendary WELCOME TO 1979 studio in Nashville with Josh Halper on guitar. Song’s out everywhere now, and the next one — “Prettier Than Death” — arrives Oct 7 ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Back in the LAB WELCOME TO 1979. Y’all ready for something new?!?
Been working with a couple of very talented producers to create and release a 10” vinyl EP with four cuts from “On A Hot Tin Roof”.
We’ve remixed it for vinyl, at Eight Days A Week, and remastered it, also for vinyl, at WELCOME TO 1979, in Nashville. And it will be recorded at 45rpm, for maximum fidelity.
We shot some new photos for the gatefold… new graphics… gonna be pretty special!
Vinyl takes a while, so will probably be a late winter/early spring release. Stay tuned! Pre-sales will be available soon!!
Here’s a clip from the extreme left edge of the gatefold… trust me… the rest of the gatefold is much better 😉. (Click on it for full pic)
Thanks yet again for all the love and support we've gotten from releasing these two albums! Speaking of support - these songs couldn't have been made without a LOT of people. Of course - regardless of all that's happened, every single band member put down absolutely great performances. That's first and foremost! We were also blessed with a ton of great collaborators who made it all possible. The vinyl has extensive credits, but it's hard to find places to provide all that info online.
Jason Randall - also known as "Jocko". Mix Engineer for Apollyon. Turkuaz's sound was shaped and enhanced by this man like no other, starting back in 2014 when we went to his studio in Syracuse to record Digitonium. He also probably engineered, produced, mixed or mastered countless other records you know and love. This man is a legend.
Bobby Holland - A Nashville legend! Bobby and his studio, Pentavarit are both an absolute inspiration. We tracked so much of Paradiso there, including MIkey's incredible sounding drum parts - and Bobby mixed the whole record. Beast!
Rob O'Block - Rob is my main partner in crime in all musical endeavors these days, and teaming up with him on production has been life changing and a true joy. He's been helping shape the sound of this band since doing a couple tracks with us on our last album, and he co-produced Paradiso. The entire band LOVED working with Rob, and it's no surprise. He's the best.
Tim Walsh - A crucial engineer (on both records), and a former member of one of my favorite bands, The Stepkids. Tim is an incredible drummer, engineer, technician, and all around musician and human.
Jonathan Smith - Jon has been working with the band since 2009! He's seen it all, and been a rock solid engineer at every studio we've worked out of for the last several years. So happy to be out in Los Angeles playing music with him again too!
Yahuba Jose Garcia-Torres - What a guy! Yahuba first joined us for the Remain in Light tour on percussion, and immediately clicked as part of the band. Through the whole pandemic he and I were sending tracks back and forth for nearly every song, and we had a blast the whole time!
Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew were kind enough to throw down on "Ophidiophobia", and provided such an incredible opportunity for us these last few years. Working with them was an honor as always.
Chris Athens - A legendary mastering engineer out of Austin, TX. It's been an honor to work with Chris on the last several records, and he always gives the finishing touch we need.
Also shout out to Steveland Swatkins who plays on "Something in the Air" and has contributed incredible parts on our records since 2017!
John Cooke - co-writer of the last track on Paradiso, Crystal Ball. His keys playing on that song is transcendent and maybe my favorite thing on the entire album! Just perfect.
Not only did everyone in the band contribute immensely, but they also nearly all engineered themselves during the pandemic as we sent tracks back and forth. This was a process like no other and this is just the tip of the iceberg. I believe that covers the audio for the albums (it took 4 years - so if I forgot something - message me and I'll add!) - but there are so many more people who made our whole operation possible. No matter what the state of our relationship today, I am extremely aware that without an enormous team of people, none of it would have happened.
Lastly I just wanna thank WELCOME TO 1979 and New Orleans Record Press for CRUSHING the vinyl. This is leaps and bounds the best we've ever sounded on vinyl and it's thanks to them.
Okay, I'll shut up now! Happy listening!
