Nauvoo has a new event venue! The Nauvoo Mercantile Stage is between Fireside BBQ and the Mercantile buildings. The courtyard space is right in the heart of downtown Nauvoo. Fireside will be handling the booking arrangements for local music and plays, but the space is also available for your own event as well.

New Bark in the Doggy Park—the Nauvoo Park District/the Purple Park
The new bark does not belong to one of the four-legged guests, but to a new tree that will be planted on Arbor Day, April 25, 2025. The public is invited to attend the 10 am ceremony at the Nauvoo Park District/the Purple Park 395 N. Wi******er. Sponsored by the Nauvoo Betterment Association (NBA)’s Tree Committee, this Arbor Day event is one of Nauvoo’s goals for achieving Tree City USA designation.
Tree City USA is not just a nice title on a road sign, but membership entitles the Tree City with perks like free trees, nursery discounts, opportunities to receive members-only merchandise, seasonal tree tips, and more.
Tree City USA status is achieved by meeting four core standards of sound urban forestry management. The core standards are: maintaining a tree board or department (the NBA Tree Committee (Kathryn Schoeni and Rita Souther) meets this requirement); having a community tree ordinance (see Nauvoo Code, Title 3 Public Ways and Property, Chapter 2 Trees and Shrubs); spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry (pay for city employees when working on tree issues and the contract for cleaning the River Walk meet this standard); and celebrating Arbor Day (which we are doing now!)
These standards were established by the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters to ensure that every qualifying community has a viable tree management plan. More than 3,500 cities have met the standards to create and maintain tree cover, making them a greener place to call home. Beautiful Nauvoo will soon be one of them! The Tree Committee’s first public event was held at the library last fall to help children get excited about planting trees.
Dogs, bring your human parents and siblings to the Doggy Park on April 25th at 10 am to help plant a tree for your summer enjoyment. Celebrate Arbor Day!
