Lock 19 on the Mississippi River at Keokuk, Iowa, is now closed for winter maintenance.

The purpose for the closure is to perform underwater rock excavation upstream of the lock chamber in preparation for future repair and extension of the upstream river wall nose pier. The lock is expected to reopen March 14, 2026, in time for the busy spring navigation season.

Historic Nauvoo and Carthage Jail are open again after being closed this past weekend due to severe weather. TODAY (Monday, Dec. 15), sleigh rides will again be available between 11 am - 2 pm. Head to the horse barn to wait your turn and enjoy the beauty of Nauvoo's winter!
