Update: Friday, Oct 3 @ 12:50PM

I filled the water jug, and cleaned off the shelves a bit from dust and dirt and water spots.

I dropped off a bunch of spider plants and mixed pothos. I will have more soon.

Get your plants in soon before the temps drop for the season 💕

Being a plant parent takes patience.. A LOT of it!

Here is my string of turtles that I ended up killing..😬 I was only able to save the tiniest 🤏🏻 bit that wasn't rotted.

After research and learning the proper growing conditions.. she has grown SO MUCH! I am so happy I was able to save her and watch her thrive again! 🤗

I just dropped off 3 Monstera standleyana and a philodendron recently propagated (unknown exactly what variety, but very low maintenance and beginner friendly).

Will have more pothos and a few others soon!

Temps are cooling down, but it’s supposed to warm up again next week a bit.

Hi friends, buckle up for a long post here.

When we first wanted to start this plant box at Slice of Heaven Bakery, we approached Rebecca (the bakery’s owner), she loved the idea and shared that she had been wanting to create a memorial in that very spot for her nephew, Josh.

Josh’s story is the reason you’ll see frogs on the plant box and you may have noticed the “In Loving Memory of Joshua David Holm” on the front door.

Before he got sick, Josh loved origami frogs. When he was in the hospital, his classmates sent him dozens of folded frogs, filling his room with their care. The day of his surgery happened to be Leap Day and everywhere in the hospital, frogs seemed to appear. A mural, gift shop trinkets, nurses in frog scrubs… it was as if the frog had become his symbol. During his battle with a rare liver cancer, Josh adopted the acronym FROG: Fully Rely On God. His family even had bracelets made with that message.

Josh was born on November 22, 1996, and on this day August 19, 2008, he went to Heaven. His family continues to honor his memory through Joshua’s Camp, a retreat for families facing childhood cancer, and through everyday reminders like these frogs that meant so much to him. You can learn more about Joshua’s Camp here: https://www.joshuascamp.org.

Today, on the anniversary of his passing, his mom donated something very special to the plant box. She purchased four “String of Frogs” plants from Josh’s Frogs, one for each member of their family. These aren’t just plants; they carry Josh’s story with them. If you choose to take one home, please know it’s very special.

Caring for String of Frogs
• Beginner Friendly | Non-toxic
• Plant in well-draining soil
• Water when the top of soil is dry (don’t let it stay soggy)
• Prefers bright, indirect light but can adapt to lower light

Thank you to Josh’s mom, Darla, for the donation. Please keep Josh’s family in your hearts. 💕

In case you didn't know, THIS is how root bound spider plants like to be 🤯🤯

I had this girl in one of the self watering terracotta planters from Walmart - repotted earlier this spring - Today I had to break her planter and I discovered her roots like this!!

Insane!

I was gone last week and just had the chance to stop back down, it was bare empty! I brought some English Ivy. You could take some or all. These propagate really easy so you can cut up some of the long cuttings and make more.

Here’s today’s update - Wednesday, June 25, 2025 @ 4PM

Tomato plants!! Great for beginners or kids wanting to try growing their own veggies.

2 of these are determinate (Roma) which means they only grow to a certain set size and produce a set amount of fruit.

The other ones (indeterminate) will basically continue to grow until something stops it, like disease, cold/frost, or human intention.

Roma are great container plants, the others can grow in a container also. They grow well in 5 gallon buckets with a tomato cage.

Spider plants! All great beginner plants. These are indoor houseplants. Very low maintenance plants. 3 left!

Looks like people are getting some plants!

I ran down after we just had a hefty first round of thunderstorms. The wind was absolutely wicked.

This is what’s left in the box. Please note the last picture: due to the second wave of incoming thunderstorms, I placed something in the door latch to minimize the risk of something knocking the plant box door open. It doesn’t lock the box, and I didn’t screw it shut all the way. But if anyone visits before I remove it you can just take it off the latch and leave it inside the box please.
