"Over the years, Buddy Thomas has achieved several historic milestones in his field. He became the first deaf member of the American Bladesmith Society and the first and only deaf bladesmith to compete on the History Channel's 'Forged in Fire.' His appearance on the show later earned him recognition as a Top 10 Fan Favorite."

Since competing on "Forged in Fire," Buddy has generated an online presence known as The Deaf Bladesmith where he posts videos using spoken English, American Sign Language and captions so everyone can follow along. "Remembering the holiday season: I grew up with my mom taping Christmas cards around the doorframe of our living room. My grandma had a fake electric fireplace and some of my aunts used interior moldings and window ledges for colorful card displays in their homes. That holiday display was different and evolving every Christmas.

The cards were full of the holy family, the three kings, shepherds and the loved manger scene. And no surprise to a young budding naturalist, there was wildlife. The holidays, including the week after Christmas leading to New Year's Day, were cloaked with a second theme around the religious reason for the season...fun and appreciation of the snowy, beautiful nature."

"There's a certain kind of magic that fills the air when you're a kid at Christmastime. You can feel it as soon as the season begins; in the first chill of winter, the glow of twinkling lights and the comforting smell of something sweet baking in the kitchen. But somewhere between growing up, paying bills and managing the holiday chaos, that childlike wonder seems to fade." 🎅🏻🎁

Are you starting to feel like the season has become a checklist instead of a feeling? If so, take a look at Amy's 6 tips to finding Christmas spirit as an adult! ✨🎄

"In 1946, the world was beginning to recover from the aftermath of World War II. Christmas of that year took on a new meaning for families in America. That year marked a return to normalcy, and holiday traditions became a beacon of hope and joy.

Families embraced the warmth of togetherness. Christmas trees adorned homes as symbols of not only the birth of Jesus and the real reason we celebrate this beloved holiday, but also as a symbol of renewal and celebration after the hardships of the war."

For the author of this story, Larry Whiteley, Christmas Day in 1946 was significant for another reason; it was the day he was born in an old farmhouse surrounded by loved ones preparing for their holiday festivities.

"While there's a reason we call this the most wonderful time of the year, the dark, cold days bring their own concerns. December is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) awareness month, and for good reason: the days get shorter, everything gets darker sooner and it's easy to feel like the days are passing you by."

What are some of the best ways to combat SAD?
☀ Do your best to get some sunlight in your day!
❤ Stay social and surround yourself with friends and family.
🏋️‍♀️ Stay active by exercising and maintaining your routine.
🏥 Consult with your doctor to make sure something more serious isn't going on.

"When filling up a basket or cart with all the things we enjoy eating and find to be delectably delightful for our holiday meal, most of us take a quick trip to our local grocer. But Kelly Hock of Webb City, Missouri, prefers living off the land and knows there are wide-ranging benefits in doing so." 🥦🍅🥕

Foragers like Kelly search for and gather provisions from the wild. "It's grocery shopping outside. Highly nutritious foods and delicious flavors can be found in most yards around town and most areas outdoors," said Kelly.

"When Andy Johnson and his wife Jennafer bought 40 acres of land outside Joplin, Missouri, they didn't have a plan beyond wanting a little space and perhaps a project they could work on together. Neither had an agricultural background but both loved the tradition of cutting down a live Christmas tree."

20 years later and Johnson Family Farm is still living up to its motto: "Creating memories one tree at a time."

Located at 9615 County Lane 251, Webb City, Missouri, Johnson Family Farm offers visitors their choice of pre-cut trees or the opportunity to cut down their own tree. Saws, wagons and friendly guidance are provided to help guests through each step of the tree cutting process.

"It's easy to get caught up in the wrapping, unwrapping and shopping of gifts and materialistic things at Christmastime, but Oakton Church in Lamar, Missouri, has reminded people each year for 68 years about what is most important during this special season with its Annual Outdoor Living Nativity Pageant."

The Living Nativity Pageant will take place at Oakton Church between December 19-21 at 6:30 p.m. and will last approximately 25 minutes and continue every half hour until the final show starts at 9 p.m.

"All of us who are involved in this ministry truly believe in the message that is presented. Lots of people who don't go to church will come to see this. We hope it speaks to them. We consider it an honor to give this gift to our community," said Patty Hininger, Oakton Church Pageant secretary.
