PRESS RELEASE
City of Neosho • July 1, 2025

NEOSHO — It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of former Chief of Police Jason Baird. Chief Baird devoted 28 years of exemplary service to the Neosho Police Department, leaving an indelible mark through his leadership, integrity, and compassion.

Throughout his career, Chief Baird exemplified the highest standards of public safety and justice. His commitment to the well-being of Neosho's residents was matched only by his genuine care for people, making an impact that will continue for years to come.

Chief Baird's untimely passing is a tremendous loss to our community. While his retirement was brief, his legacy is vast, and it continues to inspire those who worked alongside him and those he served. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and all who mourn him.

Details regarding memorial services will be shared as they become available. We invite everyone to take a moment to reflect on Chief Baird’s contributions and the impact he had on our community.

May he rest in peace, and may we honor his memory by continuing the work he passionately led.

An update to the National Weather Service (NWS) weather system will create an outage of NOAA weather radios. This outage is expected to be short-term, from Monday, June 16, through sometime on Wednesday, June 18. All citizens to have alternative ways to receive weather warning information during this time.

There are multiple sources to access for weather warnings, including local TV and radio stations, weather apps on a mobile device, and the NWS website at weather.gov/sgf.

The National Weather Service in Springfield will be conducting a required, scheduled update to their Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) system from June 16-18. The NWS uses the AWIPS computer system to display and integrate weather and water information, and to send life-saving information, such as weather and water warnings, to the public.

Springfield officials also noted that this work will not impact their core services of forecast products, and weather watches, warnings and advisories are expected during this period. The KSGF radar will remain operational and products will continue to be distributed as normal.

PRESS RELEASE
From Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe's Office
Thursday, June 12, 2025

JEFFERSON CITY – Today, in response to immigration enforcement protests planned across Missouri, Governor Mike Kehoe signed Executive Order 25-25, activating the Missouri National Guard as a precautionary measure in reaction to recent instances of civil unrest across the country.

"We respect, and will defend, the right to peacefully protest, but we will not tolerate violence or lawlessness in our state," Governor Kehoe said. "While other states may wait for chaos to ensue, the State of Missouri is taking a proactive approach in the event that assistance is needed to support local law enforcement in protecting our citizens and communities."

This week, the Missouri Department of Public Safety, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and Missouri National Guard established a Unified Command to monitor situations on the ground and prepare to assist local law enforcement.

Executive Order 25-25 declares that a State of Emergency exists in the State of Missouri due to civil unrest and calls on the Adjutant General, or his designee, to forthwith call and order into active service such portions of the National Guard as he deems necessary to aid executive officials of Missouri to protect life and property.

It is further ordered and directed that the Adjutant General or his designee, and through him, the commanding officer of any unit or other organization of the National Guard, to take such action and employ such equipment as may be necessary in support of civilian authorities and provide such assistance as may be authorized and directed by Governor Kehoe.

State Sen. Jill Carter, R-Granby, today issued a statement relating to the possibility of violent protests and riots allegedly being planned across Missouri:

“As your senator I stand firmly for your right to protest and speak freely. But let me be clear: No one has the right to destroy businesses, injure law enforcement or incite chaos.

"State government officials have been briefed and are well aware that local groups with national ties may be planning events in Missouri that go far beyond peaceful protests. Instead, they seem to be intent on obstructing federal law enforcement and inciting riots.

"I strongly support the governor in his decision to prepare the Missouri National Guard and have them at the ready in the event these plans materialize. I also plan to introduce legislation at the first opportunity that ensures any group inciting or coordinating violent protests – regardless of funding sources – will face felony charges, asset forfeiture and civil lawsuits.

"I ask all Missourians to stand for peace. Speak your mind, but stand with law and order. We will protect your families. We will protect your businesses. We will never surrender our state to violence.”
