New goings on for REI up in them there hills…. TeJay Weinmann assisting on the Kanaka Creek Bridge overhaul in Alleghany, Ca. The existing bridge was built in 1985 on Plumbago Road in Sierra County. It replaced the pre-existing historical bridge. Plumbago Rd serviced many former & current gold mines. If you’re looking for some adventure, you can find your way from Alleghany to North Bloomfield and back to town. A good Sunday drive I was told as a child....

Happy Labor Day from REI!!

The Crews are taking a well deserved day off to spend time with Family & Friends. At the lake, the park, or the back patio, enjoying BBQ, good food, great fun, and a cold drink.

Well….., yesterday morning it was a mountain lion on the job. Today it was this guy. Earlier in the week it was cattle.

And all week long it was the “let’s go check out the woods” greenhorns, ignoring Logging Operation and Log Truck signs, the sound of hotsaws spinning, timber falling, and of course…, blocking the treacherous, narrow, sloped, dirt haul roads.

Plenty of excitement to keep all the Wood’s crews and log truck drivers on their toes.

Logging Season 2025 is well underway for the Crews at REI.

For the first time in 41 years, a familiar face is not out front leading our way. Tommy Dorris is off enjoying new found joy in what a Summer looks like without a steering wheel in his hands and a big piece of yellow equipment in his side mirrors.

Projects, chores, and more time with Sharon are the orders of the day. Rest easy Tom, you trained your replacements well. They have the reins and are working hard to live up to the Legend!

I'm sure we will see you soon. Thank you for Everything!!

Careful scrutiny will be used to determine winner based on value of prize…. 😳 NO Loggers. This is for our amateur friends.

Happy Memorial Day ! As you enjoy your 3 day weekend with BBQ and outdoor activities, please remember to honor and mourn our US Military who died while serving our great Country. It’s due in large part to their sacrifice we all get to enjoy our time together.

Our new Caterpillar 568 Harvestline is headed to Sleighville House above Camptonville for her first job at REI. Tim Hart, TeJay Weinmann and Larry Wilson are handling the transport duties.

The Cat Shop did a quick turnaround to get the machine ready to go. Rob, Dylan, Ben, Tyler, and Stefan went thru all the systems and did a deep clean to make her ready for the Woods.

Steve Arrowood and his crew are anxiously waiting the arrival.

We have a rare Cliff Engstrom sighting here at REI today. Down from the Pacific Northwest, Cliff is putting his decades of Yarder Chops back to good use for the month of May.

He’ll be up on Lake Tahoe at Stateline Point on a steep terrain construction project. Cliff will be relieving Tim Robinson and putting the Yarder to good use, meeting the Keep Tahoe Blue environmental regulations.

Thanks Cliff. Glad to see you.
