X-FEST PERFORMER SPOTLIGHT: Checked-Out 🔦

Taking the stage for the 1st time! (...not including a student showcase 🤓)

Self-described as a blend of post-punk & emo, says fans of The Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Jeff Rosenstock and Joyce Manor will enjoy their music. BUT, really, everyone should come listen to these Nevada County locals bring the energy. They're committed to getting people dancing - so please don't disappoint them. The thing is (and as is evidenced in this video), the group takes themself very seriously, so don't get on their bad side. 😤

X-FEST PERFORMER SPOTLIGHT: (of Freestyle Fellowship) 🔦

Aceyalone rose to prominence as part of the widely influential Los Angeles hip-hop group Freestyle Fellowship. Fellowship developed a reputation for shaping a particular style of fast double-time rap used by rappers like Busta Rhymes, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, and Migos.

The rapper is known for his role in evolving alternative hip-hop. Aceyalone cites Phil Spector's Wall of Sound, Motown & Bo Diddley as influences - exploring dancehall & doo-wop genres in past albums. The wordsmith is part of this year's all-star KVMRx X-Fest lineup.

💀 INTELLECTUAL DECAY 💀

KVMRx DJ angelfish 🐠 (host of Utility Metal Research Kitchen) brings us a new YOUNG MUSIC FREAKS. angelfish will be joined in studio by local Nevada County teens & young music freaks Intellectual Decay!

🌀 What's Young Music Freaks?
This series highlights the impact music has when we're forming our identities - those middle/high school years when a song/album/band can affect us so deeply. When you hear something for the first time and it consumes you absolutely. As a group of music freaks ourselves, angelfish knows KVMRx is a place for young music freaks to express their current music obsessions.

💀 A Bit About These Young Music Freaks:
Intellectual Decay is a metal band from Nevada City & Grass Valley. They made their debut at Ribald Brewing in 2024 & have played shows at Stardust Station & the Madelyn Helling Library. They take inspiration from the underground black metal and war metal scene. To quote the group, their taste is "VERY UNDERGROUND". Two of the three band members will help host Saturday's show: guitarist Ripper & drummer Tyger.
