Every time my mother-in-law was scheduled to babysit, my 4-year-old son would become uneasy and withdrawn.
One evening, he suddenly burst into tears and shouted, “I don’t want Grandma to stay!”
His reaction alarmed me, especially because I was just about to head to work at the hospital. I didn’t have time to find a substitute, but I couldn’t ignore how scared he seemed.
“Why not, honey?” I asked softly.
He sniffled and replied, “Grandma does weird things.”
Before I could ask more, she arrived, and my son ran upstairs, clearly distressed.
