Our Story

The IU Southeast Review showcases the best short fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, art, and photography created by IU Southeast undergraduates.The literary journal is completely designed, produced, and published by a hand-picked student editorial staff under the guidance of Mr. Tom O’Neil, Senior Lecturer in Writing and Advisor to the Review. Each year, publication of the IU Southeast Review is celebrated with a release party where contributors present their work. Copies of The Review are provided free of charge at the release party and also distributed around the campus and in the library.

Submission Guidelines:

It is okay to submit previously published work as long as the author retains the copyright to said work.

You can only submit your own original work.

Due to space limits in the publication, the following guidelines should be followed for length of submissions for each category:

Fiction, Hybrid Genres, Unique Works, and Creative Nonfiction must be 5000 words or less.

Poetry must be under 100 lines.

We consider Flash Fiction to be anything under 750 words. Anything larger will be classified as Fiction. (though some people choose to shoot for under 500)

Photographs and Artwork can be any size, but, if selected, will be scaled to fit the publication.

We would prefer the largest definition image for .jpg submissions

You can submit in multiple categories but please submit no more than two pieces each in Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, and Long Form Book Reviews, Hybrid Genres, and Unique Works, or five pieces each in Poetry, Photography, Flash Fiction, Book Review Blurbs, and Art.

Submissions will be judged blindly by a panel of student editors.

No more than two works by one author will be selected for publication within a single category.

You will be notified by email if your work is accepted. Please do not email us to find out; we will let you know as soon as we have made the final decision.
