Accelerate MS sponsored the Horizons 2022 Conference September 6-8 in Flowood. During the luncheon on September 8, New Albany School District was among the Workforce Champions recognized from across MS. The IMPACTO internship program was named the "Workforce Program of the Year".

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for northeast Mississippi from 1pm-8pm this evening. With relative humidity down into the low 20’s and winds sustained from 20-25mph with gusts up to 35mph possible. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

So far there have been 51 confirmed tornadoes from this past weeks event. This number could rise. There were 3 EF3’s with one being in Kemper county Mississippi.

On 01-12-2022 the Lee County Sheriff’s Department along with a Baldwyn PD Investigator went to an area off State Park Road to search for a missing person. The missing person’s property had been found by an individual while hunting. Initial search of the area by deputies did not turn up anyone.

Following up on the property that had been found, an extensive search began with ATVs and drones. The missing person was,unfortunately, found deceased. No signs of foul play were found. An autopsy was requested to find the cause of death. His vehicle was also found in the area.

Coroner Carolyn Green identified the body as that of Charles Garner, 47 years of age.

BIG DAY IN PONTOTOC COUNTY: I’m pleased to announce that TOMBIGBEE FIBER has agreed to add eastern Pontotoc County to their broadband expansion plans. Tombigbee Fiber will begin construction into Pontotoc County as soon as it completes its broadband expansion to all Tombigbee Electric members. Absent delays, Tombigbee Fiber intends to begin construction in 2023 and cover the areas east of Highway 15 throughout Pontotoc Co. except where others providers won federal funds. This is a major step forward as Tombigbee Fiber will be working with Pontotoc Electric on preliminary work to get infrastructure ready. Also, Northeast Power (NE SPARC) will begin construction into PEPA territory in western Pontotoc Co. after the first of the year.
