75th anniversary celebration this afternoon from 1 to 5!

05/13/2024

WNAS Radio/Television at New Albany High School will be celebrating their 75th anniversary with an open house this weekend. The station, which debuted with a radio broadcast of the high school's commencement ceremony in 1949, is the oldest in the United States. The celebration will be held on Saturday afternoon, May 18th from 1-5pm.

Alumni of the WNAS program, underwriting grant sponsors of the station as well as any loyal listeners are invited to come for refreshments, a tour of the studio and an opportunity to be interviewed by current students for a video retrospective of the station's history. Alumni will also have the opportunity to be a part of a television broadcast, podcast, do voicetracking or other recordings, and go on the air live to show off their deejaying skills.

Anyone interested in in attending are encouraged to e-mail WNAS at [email protected] or call (812) 981-7621 so the staff can get an approximate head count for refreshments that will be provided.

The program was recently recognized by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System with ten national finalists across a range of categories, one of just nine high schools in the United States to earn that many awards.
