On the morning of Friday, January 9, 2026, a vehicle accidentally backed into a home on Nash Road in New Bedford, Massachusetts, smashing through a wall and leaving a large gaping hole in the building.

The driver was in the process of dropping off family members when the mishap occurred. Fortunately, no one was injured — although a neighbor noted that the impact caused the building to shake noticeably.

The New Bedford Police Department responded to the scene, along with firefighters. Repairs were underway, with workers expected to patch up the hole by the end of the day. Photos by Ashley Inacio.

In a heartwarming display of dedication captured on body-worn camera footage, New Bedford officers Axel Rodriguez, Evan Bretal-Paiva, Helder Silva, Andrew Parker, and Johnny Vongsouna, along with dispatchers, conducted an exhaustive search in subzero temperatures to locate and save a missing individual who had expressed suicidal intent, finding him alive despite extreme cold exposure and intoxication after over an hour of relentless effort.
