It's Election Day in New Bern. A local news outlet reported that the mayor "can vote in council meetings if a tiebreaker is needed."

The Rest of the Story: The current mayor has repeatedly voted to create a tie. Ward 6 residents have not had an alderman since the last elected official resigned on July 31, 2024. Several attempts to appoint an alderman failed due a 3-3 tie -- three aldermen voted for one candidate, and two aldermen and the mayor voted for another.
