NBAC’s Healing US Focuses on Restoring Peace Through Reverse Breathing

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — (Oct. 5, 2025) The Brothers of the New Braunfels Alumni Chapter (NBAC) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. hosted their final Healing US session of the year today, delivering a calming and insightful wellness experience centered on mental clarity and emotional balance.

This month’s topic, “Re-Centering Your Peace Through Reverse Breathing Techniques,” was led by Bro. Edward S. Jones, NBAC Keeper of Records and a passionate advocate for community wellness. Participants explored how intentional breathing can be used to manage stress, stabilize emotions, and restore inner peace,an especially timely message as the holiday season approaches.

Reverse breathing, an ancient technique often practiced in meditation and martial arts, involves inhaling while gently contracting the abdomen and exhaling while expanding it, creating a controlled rhythm that soothes the nervous system and focuses the mind. Jones guided attendees through hands-on breathing exercises designed to help them reconnect with themselves and navigate stressful moments with calm and clarity.

“As we move into the holiday season, many people face emotional triggers, financial pressures, or feelings of loneliness,” Jones said. “Breathwork is a simple but powerful tool that allows us to re-center, protect our peace, and respond to life with intention.”

NBAC Kicks Off Service and Brotherhood with Food Bank Volunteering and First Fraternal Meeting of the Year

NEW BRAUNFELS, TX – (October 4, 2025) The New Braunfels Alumni Chapter (NBAC) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. started its fraternal year with a powerful one-two combination of community service and brotherhood yesterday. Ten chapter members joined forces with local volunteers at the New Braunfels Food Bank in the morning, followed by NBAC’s first official fraternal meeting of the year in the afternoon.

At the Food Bank, the brothers embodied the fraternity’s mission of “Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor” by assisting with sorting, organizing, and distributing food to families in need. Their coordinated effort reflected the chapter’s long-standing commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting the broader New Braunfels community.

The day’s recurring theme, voiced by several brothers, captured the spirit perfectly: “Yes, we play hard, but we work harder.” With smiles on their faces and sleeves rolled up, NBAC members demonstrated that service remains at the heart of their mission.

“This is what brotherhood looks like in action,” said Chapter Exchequer Bro. Marc Granville. “Before we even met to plan the year, we were out here serving the community together. That’s what makes NBAC strong.”

After completing their volunteer shift, the brothers transitioned to their first fraternal meeting of the year, setting the tone for a year focused on impact, growth, and unity. The meeting agenda highlighted upcoming philanthropic initiatives, youth engagement programs, and signature events that will continue to strengthen the chapter’s presence across Central Texas.

The combination of service and strategic planning underscored NBAC’s holistic approach to leadership. By starting the year with community engagement, the chapter reaffirmed that their bond extends beyond the meeting room and into meaningful action.

For NBAC, volunteering isn’t just a checkbox, it’s a tradition that fuels purpose, pride, and fraternity.

NBAC Coordinates Colgate Mobile Dental Van Visit and School Supply Donation at Rose Garden Elementary

By Bro. Edward S Jones, Keeper of Records

SCHERTZ - The New Braunfels Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. coordinated a community outreach event on Friday that brought the Colgate Mobile Dental Van and much-needed school supplies to students at Rose Garden Elementary School, located at 10414 East FM 1518 North in Schertz. The initiative provided free dental screenings and brushing instructions for hundreds of children and helped ensure they are equipped for the academic year ahead.

The event was coordinated by Bro. Marc Granville, Keeper of Exchequer for the chapter. Fraternity members volunteered throughout the day to support the dental staff and school personnel, helping the visit run smoothly from start to finish. Joining Granville were Chapter Vice Polemarch Dr. Sean Seay, Bro. Dion Taylor, Bro. Brian Guillory, and Chapter Assistant Keeper of Records Bro. Garrick Williams.

According to Carrie Olivar, Med., NBCC, Site Coordinator with Communities In Schools at Rose Garden Elementary, the Colgate Mobile Dental Van was scheduled to serve more than 180 students during the visit. She expressed deep gratitude for the partnership and the services provided.

“This program means a great deal to me and to our campus,” Olivar said. “The students and families here truly benefit from services like today’s visit and Kappa Alpha Psi’s Room to Read program. Parents are thankful for NBAC’s efforts to coordinate the dental screenings with the Colgate Mobile Dental Van.”

Olivar emphasized the impact of the screenings on the student population. “We have 180 students scheduled for screenings today, which is almost a quarter of our student population,” she said. “The need is great. Many of these students do not have regular access to dental care, so events like this give them that opportunity. I am very thankful for the partnership with NBAC because it opens doors to vital services for our students.”
In addition to the screenings, students received oral hygiene instructions designed to help them develop healthy brushing habits. NBAC also donated school supplies to support students and families as the school year progresses.

The Colgate Mobile Dental Van program travels to communities across the country, providing no-cost dental screenings and oral health education to children who might not otherwise receive care. To learn more about the program or to book the van for a future visit
