We Found a Peregrine Falcon Nest Without a Nest | PA Game Commission Rescue Mission

We were asked by the Pennsylvania Game Commission through Monaca Fire to help track down a peregrine falcon nesting site in the Monaca, PA area. A juvenile peregrine falcon was found injured on a local roadway and was being treated by wildlife rehab experts. The goal? Reintroduce it to its original family in the wild.

But there was a twist: peregrine falcons don’t build traditional nests. Instead, they use old nests from other birds or simply nest on ledges and cliffs — leaving no nesting materials behind to identify the site.
Join us as we navigate this unique challenge, track down the adult peregrine falcons and siblings, and ultimately locate the nesting area through fieldwork, observation, and a little luck. We were even able to capture incredible footage of the juvenile falcon’s wild siblings!

🚒 Progress in this week’s exciting update!

Hey Monaca neighbors and construction fans! 👷‍♂️👷‍♀️
As we headed into the heart of December, work on the new Monaca Fire Station is charging full steam ahead!

💧 Highlights from this week’s update:
✅ Continued under-slab plumbing and electrical conduit installation
✅ Sanitary sewer line tied into the city system
✅ Main water line extended from city supply to the building
✅ Block walls rising on the east and back sides of the station

From what’s happening beneath the surface to what’s taking shape above ground, this project is building momentum just in time for the holidays! 🎁

🚧🔥 Monaca Fire Station Construction Update – Major Progress! 🔥🚧

Monaca neighbors, it’s time for another fire station construction update! 🏗️ The week of December 6, 2024, the crew made big strides in preparing the site for the next phases. Here’s what’s new:

💧 Main Water Line Installed – A key step to ensure the station has a reliable water supply.
🔌 Under-Slab Plumbing & Electrical Work – Critical systems are being placed before the slab is poured!
🚪 Doors Set in Block Walls – Positioned for durability… although one might need a quick adjustment! 😉
📦 New Materials On-Site – Blocks, roof decking, and bar joists are staged and ready for the next phase.

Welcome back, everyone! This week at the Monaca Fire Station construction site, it's been all about laying the groundwork. Let’s dive into the latest progress! 📈🏗️
🔧 Downspout Piping Installation This crucial step ensures rainwater management around the future station, protecting the foundation and surrounding areas from water damage. 🌧️💧
🔨 Preparing Inside Footers and Pylons Early in the week, our crews filled necessary areas with limestone to create a stable base. This preparation paved the way for pouring the interior footers. 🏛️
🏗️ Pouring Interior Footers By midweek, we achieved a significant milestone by pouring the interior footers, providing critical structural support for the building. This ties into our next phase of work. 🧱
🔌 Upcoming Work: Under-Slab Plumbing and Electrical Conduit Next, we'll shift focus to installing under-slab plumbing and electrical conduit. These systems are vital for the building’s functionality and efficiency. Following that, more stone backfilling will ensure a stable foundation for future construction phases. 🚧💡

Hi Monaca neighbors and construction enthusiasts! 👋 We're back with another exciting update on the progress of the new Monaca Fire Station. This week, the team made significant strides, bringing us closer to completing this vital community project.

Here's what happened:
✅ Blockwork Completed: Walls built to floor level, sealed, and filled with concrete for strength and stability.
✅ Foundation Insulation Installed: Helping ensure future energy efficiency.
✅ Ground Wire Added: Critical for electrical safety and the lightning protection system.
✅ Drainage Work Done: French drains, downspouts, and pipes were connection to manage water efficiently.
✅ Spring Solution: A pipe from the spring at the back of the building was run into the boroughs storm drain system.
✅ Backfilling Progress: Foundation and parking lot soil compacted for stability.
✅ Structural Prep: Pylons poured and bolts set for steel columns.
✅ Electrical Prep: Underground conduit installed for wiring and future systems.

📢 Hey Monaca community and beyond! We've got another exciting update on the progress of our new Monaca Fire Station!

🚧 This week was all about laying strong foundations—literally and figuratively. Here's what went down:
✅ Foundation Work: The outer footer pour is complete, setting the stage for a rock-solid structure. 💪
✅ Materials Delivered: Cement blocks are onsite and ready for the footer wall. Things are moving fast now! 🏗️
✅ Parking Lot Prep: Crews replaced unsuitable soil with compacted stone backfill to ensure durability for years to come. 🚜
✅ Drainage System Update: A new catch basin ties the parking lot, retention pond, and street basin into the borough’s storm drain network for top-notch water management. 🌧️
✅ Block Laying Begins: The first blocks for the footer wall are in place, bringing us closer to the next construction phase.

🚒 Monaca Fire Station Construction Update | Week Ending Nov 8, 2024 | Footer and Drainage Progress 🚧

We're back with another exciting update on the Monaca Fire Station construction! 🏗️✨ This week, ending Friday, November 8, 2024, the site has been buzzing with activity as we edge closer to laying the foundation for Monaca’s future fire station.

In this update:
• Footer Work: The crew started with major groundwork, digging footers and carefully placing rebar reinforcements in the trenches. Concrete was poured into the footers, ensuring every step is up to code. Rigorous on-site testing guarantees the highest standards of durability.
• Parking Lot Preparation: Progress continues with the removal of unsuitable soil from the parking lot. The team has dug an additional two feet to make room for a geogrid installation and stone backfill, ensuring stability and durability.
• Drainage Improvements: The team installed a catch basin for the parking lot and connected it to the on-site retention pond with underground piping. This efficient system will help manage stormwater and prepare the site for any weather challenges.
• Natural Spring Solution: A challenge remains in addressing the drainage issue caused by a natural spring discovered on-site. The team is actively working on solutions to ensure this doesn’t delay the construction schedule.

As you can see, every day brings us closer to transforming this site into Monaca’s new fire station. From structural reinforcements to drainage improvements, the crew is making steady progress.

🚒 Monaca Fire Station Construction Update | Oct 28 - Nov 1: Parking Lot Progress & Foundation Prep 🚧

We’re back with another update on the Monaca Fire Station construction! 🏗️✨ In this video, we cover the exciting progress made between October 28th and November 1st.

In this update:
• Parking Lot Progress: The crew is digging out the parking lot, removing an extra two feet of soil to ensure a solid foundation. They’ll then install a geogrid and backfill with crushed limestone.
• Foundation Preparation: Backfilling with crushed limestone continues, creating a stable base for the building footprint. Surveyors have marked the layout for the footer, ready for digging and pouring next week.
• Drainage Plans: The team is awaiting guidance on where to run the drain pipe from the spring found at the back of the building, a crucial step for long-term site stability.

🚒 Monaca Fire Station Construction Update | Weeks 10/14-10/25 | Drone Footage & Structural Progress 🚧

Big changes are happening at the Monaca Fire Station site! Over the past two weeks, the construction team made major progress preparing the foundation and organizing materials for the next phase. 🏗️

Here’s what they’ve accomplished:
🔹 Cleared excess earth, tore up old concrete slabs, and removed excavation debris
🔹 Brought in 500+ tons of crushed limestone to backfill and compact the building footprint
🔹 Organized structural assemblies and evaluated plans for a drainage system from a natural spring
🔹 Relocated streetscape stockpiles to make more space for the station build

🚁 With our drone footage, we’re capturing the "Big Picture," showcasing how the site evolves week by week. It’s amazing to see the transformation unfold from above!
