After four decades of making calls on football fields and basketball courts, John Yerage made one for himself. He’s hanging up his whistle. Yerage, a New Castle resident, retired from officiating high school football and basketball games after a lengthy career doing both.

“I just realized after last year that it was my time to step away,” he said. “I officiated for 41 years — that’s enough for anybody.”
