The Courier-Times is a daily newspaper in Henry County, Indiana, and winner of 52 awards in the last four Hoosier State Press Association Better Newspaper contests. The paper is published five days a week, Tuesday-Saturday. Our office is located at 201 S. 14th St., New Castle, IN 47362. We are open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. and closed from noon to 1 p.m.

Applications are now available for this year's Shop With an Officer and Shop With a Fireman programs.

Applications for Shop With an Officer can be picked up at the New Castle Police Department, 197 N. 6th St., New Castle. Completed applications are due by 4 p.m. Nov. 14 and can be returned to the box located in the police station lobby.

Applications for Shop With a Fireman can be picked up at New Castle Fire Station 1, 229 N. Main St. Completed applications are due by 4 p.m. Nov. 26 and can be returned to the fire station.

Year-round donations for Shop With a Fireman can be made by mailing a check made payable to the Henry County Firefighters Association, P.O. Box 317, Spiceland, IN 47385. Money can also be donated through Venmo to .

Donations for Shop With an Officer are accepted year-round. Checks can be made out to John P Kura FOP Lodge #70. Please include “Shop With an Officer” on the memo line. HALLOWEEN ACTIVITIES

Oct. 31
Hagerstown Halloween party: The Hagerstown Fire Department will host a Halloween party from 5-6 p.m. Oct. 31 at the fire station, 151 N. Plum St., Hagerstown. There will be free cider and donuts, as well as costume contest awards ($5, $3 and $1) for various age groups, including adults. The event is sponsored by American Legion Post #333. After the party ends, Hagerstown trick-or-treat will take place from 6-8 p.m.

Trunk-or-Treat: Trunk-or-Treat will take place from 5-6:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Henry County YMCA, 300 Wittenbraker Avenue, New Castle. All ages are welcome to attend. Organizations and groups are invited to reserve a parking space or decorate a company vehicle to park at the event and pass out candy. RSVP for a space by calling the YMCA front desk at 765-529-3804. YMCA child watch will be closed Oct. 31 as staff help with the Halloween event.

Truck-or-Treat: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will have a truck-or-treat from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 31 at 535 S. 14th St., New Castle. Congregation members will be serving free hot dogs while supplies last.

Spooky Drive Thru: Eagles Auxiliary #933 will host a spooky drive thru trunk-or-treat from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 31 at 14 N. County Road 25 W., New Castle. Participants should stay in their vehicles.

Trunk-or-Treat: First Christian Church will have trunk-or-treat from 5-8 p.m. at 2000 Bundy Ave., New Castle. There will be music, food and fun.

Haunted House: A free haunted house will take place from 5-10 p.m. Oct. 31 at 109 S. Jefferson St., Sulphur Springs (right off U.S. Hwy 36, the street behind the lumber yard).

Trick-or-Treat: Mt. Summit Christian Church Trick-or-Treating is 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 in the church gym, 508 S. Walnut St., Mt. Summit. There will be a bounce house, food and candy.

Trunk-or-Treat: Prairie Township Volunteer Fire Department Trunk or Treat is 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31 at the fire station, 103 Church St., Mt. Summit.

Haunted Harvest Trails: A Haunted Harvest Trails corn maze will take place from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 31 at Belgian Horse Winery, 7200 W. County Road 625 N., Middletown. A more child-friendly experience will take place from 6-7 p.m. Proceeds from the event benefit various organizations within the Shenandoah school system. The event features haunted pathways through acres of corn, a few jump scares and spooky themes. Tickets cost $20 per person for ages 14 and up, and $8 per person for children 13 and under. Food will be available for purchase including a variety of hot dogs, chili, nachos and peanut butter sandwiches.

Lewisville Halloween party: Halloween Party 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 31 Lewisville Skating Rink. Sponsored by Lewisville Park Committee.

Spiceland Slaughterhouse: Spiceland Slaughterhouse is open from 8-11 p.m. Oct. 31 on the south end of Academy St. in Spiceland. Admission is free, but attendees are asked to bring two canned goods or a $3 donation to claim their Halloween candy bucket. Bring three canned goods or a $5 donation and you can snag a full bag of candy. Donations benefit local food drives and help support su***de prevention efforts. Fieldhouse Trick-or-Treat: Trick-or-Treat will take place from 7-8 p.m. Oct. 31 at the New Castle High School Fieldhouse, 801 Parkview Drive. There will be Halloween music and candy will be passed out by Trojan athletes.

The Nightmare Before Christmas: “The Nightmare Before Christmas” will play at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at The Castle Venue, 221 S. Main St., New Castle. Look for ticket information and additional details on the “New Castle Main Street: The Heart of New Castle” page.

Slasher Woods: The fifth annual “Slasher Woods,” sponsored by Psi Iota XI- Gamma ETA, will take place from 8-10:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at 6413 W. County Road 675 S., Knightstown. The cost is $10 per person. Cash, Venmo and Zeffy are accepted.

Gribby’s Haunted Trail: Gribby’s Haunted Trail will take place from 8-11 p.m. Nov. 1 at 3695 N. Messick Road, New Castle. The cost is $10 per person, which includes a hayride and walk through the haunted trail.

A man involved in a vehicle pursuit that began in Henry County and ended with a fatal car accident in Muncie has pleaded guilty to resisting law enforcement resulting in death and received the maximum sentence of 22 years in prison. Parker Elementary School in New Castle needs to raise $50,000 for new playground equipment by Thanksgiving in order to take advantage of a grant that will double every dollar donated. A dine-to-donate event is planned tonight at Buffalo Wild Wings. Direct donations can also be made through the school's Venmo account (), or by writing a check made payable to the Parker Elementary PTO and putting "playground equipment" on the memo line.
