While I love to mix music in the dust, my primary reason for participating in Burning Man has always been to learn the the life lessons that the playa provides, so if you’d like to get a taste of my experiences at the burn this year, here’s a bit of what I’ll be taking home with me!
One of my most important lessons is “What would Dolly do?” but that deserves a post of its own. 💕
At the burn, I typically keep most of my highly-used items outside of my tent so that they’re highly visible and I don’t forget them (ilysm adhd.)
In a hectic world, it’s sometimes hard for me to remember to call those important to me or write to them, so I’m going to do a better job of keeping my priorities visible in my life with photographs, messages, and visible reminders.
We all have little nagging urges or negative thoughts that prevent us from living our best lives. At least for me, perfectionism and anxiety have often kept me from releasing music or sharing my authentic self.
Throughout the burn, I wore two devils on my shoulder (Gustavo and Agustin, if you must know). I wore them at Glamcocks parties as well as the embers of the Man, where I presented them to passersby as campers of “Seventh Circle” and recommended that guests avoid making deals with them. Gustavo and Agustin served as a reminder that there is no “perfect” or “right,” decision…and made my doubts and insecurites very adorable (and therefore, powerless).
In the GlamCocks kitchen, there’s always an opportunity for us to make more with less. We have stellar kitchen leads, but we are always adjusting based on ingredients that didn’t arrive or unexpected challanges. Sometimes, we’re trying to figure out how much gravy to add or the right way to boil water to use gas most efficiently. As a solo artist, I often find myself without someone around to ask for feedback as a part of my creative process, and I forgot how nice it was to be collaborative. (I definitely work with people a lot in nightlife, but somehow the spark really hit me at the burn). I’m definitely looking forward to make things with more people, so please
