๐ฑ This diagram shows a step-by-step guide to making compost in a simple bin. Letโs break it down in an easy way:
---
โป๏ธ How to Make Compost in a Bin
Diagram 1 โ Preparing the Bin
Use a plastic bin with ventilation holes (about 57 cm tall & wide).
Cut off the bottom of the bin so the compost touches the soil.
This allows worms and microbes to enter and speed up decomposition.
---
Diagram 2 โ Starting the Layers
Place a base layer of dry grass, dry leaves, or straw.
Add kitchen waste (vegetable peels, fruit scraps, eggshells, etc.).
Keep layering kitchen waste + dry materials (leaves/grass).
---
Diagram 3 โ Filling the Bin
Alternate layers:
Kitchen waste (wet, nitrogen-rich)
Leaves/grass (dry, carbon-rich)
A little soil to add microbes.
Ensure the pile stays moist (not too dry, not too wet).
Do NOT add extra water.
When full, leave it to stabilize and heat up (this kills pathogens & speeds composting).
---
Diagram 4 โ Turning the Compost
After 1โ2 weeks, remove the bin by lifting it up.
The pile stays in place.
---
Diagram 5 โ Mixing & Returning
Use a shovel to turn the compost (mix inside layers with outer layers).
Put it back into the same bin.
Repeat this process every 2โ3 weeks, about 3โ4 times.
---
โ
End Result: In a few months, youโll have dark, crumbly compostโrich in nutrients and perfect for gardening. ๐ฟ
