A pregnant mother arrived in the U.S. with her 4-year-old son, hoping doctors could help treat the deformities in his hands. But Anabella Gyasi never made it to the hospital.

According to the ACLU, she and her son had valid tourist visas. But when Anabella told officials she was afraid to return to Ghana because of how her disabled child had been treated, everything changed.

Instead of continuing to Akron Children’s Hospital, mother and child were reportedly held for more than a week in a windowless room at Dulles Airport with only one bed, a toilet, and a sink. Anabella, who was pregnant, was allegedly taken to the hospital twice for complications, including bleeding and high blood pressure.

A federal judge finally ordered that they could not spend another night there. But by then, a trip filled with hope had turned into fear and heartbreak.

A quiet pool day at a grandmother’s house in Sarasota, Florida, turned into a nightmare when deputies say Nicholas Novickis shot and killed his girlfriend Allie, their 6-year-old son Phoenix, and the family dog.

According to investigators, what should have been a normal family visit suddenly became a crime scene. Surveillance video allegedly showed Novickis appearing with a pump-action shotgun shortly before the shooting. His mother reportedly woke to the sound of breaking glass, went downstairs, and saw little Phoenix near the door moments before the unthinkable happened.

Allie and Phoenix were pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say there was no obvious argument or struggle seen before the gunfire, and no clear motive has been released.

Novickis is charged with two counts of murder and animal cruelty.

A 4-year-old boy in Aurora, Colorado, died after adults allegedly called violent punishment “boot camp” discipline.

Police say the child was found unconscious and covered in severe bruises, some in different stages of healing. Investigators arrested 24-year-old Alexander Martinez-Armstrong, who allegedly admitted striking the boy. The child’s mother, Destini Rose Lipsky, reportedly brought him there to be “disciplined” for behavior like lying and taking candy.

Court records say the punishments included whipping, push-ups, planks, and wall sits. A witness claimed the boy was forced to write numbers while being hit with a belt — and that his screams could be heard from another room.

Martinez-Armstrong is charged with first-degree murder. Lipsky is charged with child abuse resulting in death.
